Alpha Testing Access For Odyssey Pre-Order

Just to be clear, here comes another entitlement.

There are two versions of the Odyssey pre-order available. I know you all have budgets to consider, but if you get the one "without alpha testing access", you will not be getting alpha releases before everyone else who paid for it will.

This is important folks. We all get the beta for Horizons, but it looks like you will have to pay for the alpha release privilege.

So, if you want alpha releases before the bulk of the community gets them, be sure you pre-order the right one now.

Come on, why do people look at things in a negative way?

Another (positive) way to look at it is some people may not be interested in playing the Alpha but still want to pre-order Odyssey. They can do so and save some money by not getting the Deluxe version.

Also, with the Deluxe version you also get a copy of the soundtrack (OST) so you're not just "paying" for the Alpha.

You had to pay extra for Beta access in horizons.

This is true. And also true of the kickstarter.
Whether paying to access beta builds is acceptable, is a whole other debate.

For us LEP'ers from the kickstarter, we didn't necessarily pay for the LEP, we backed the game and the LEP was a bonus. Those who bought it after the kickstarter have a claim that they paid for it specifically.

I did a bit of poking but probably not enough. I couldn't find out what, if anything, is offered as goodies for preordering. Anyone here have a link to that info? I'd be curious to know if there are goodies being offered.

Each to their own.

Iv had EXCELLENT value for money with playing ED over the last six years. My total outlay to date was £100 (including paid for cosmetics). Considering that I'm approaching 11k game time hours on my clock, I can easily see reason to give Frontier another £40 for their next installment - if I play that part of the game or not.

To put it in perspective, I paid £45 for X4 & only played it for a month, 40something for JWE & have hardly played that either after the first couple of month - now that's NOT value for money.

I was expecting a £40-£50 tag anyway, so I don't mind paying up front, in this instance, for something that I'v been given little information about what is actually going to be included in the DLC:D.

If it gives me a try out sooner then that's even better.

It looks like the main "goodie" for preordering the normal version is the Pioneer Suit Skin, of which we don't even have a picture and will most likely be a cosmetic item. The Deluxe Alpha preorder gives you Alpha testing access and the OST. That's about it at this stage.

OK, so let us be clear about this "offer".

You have to PAY extra to test out the early release for FD? So you can do the QC bug hunt for them?

I like the game, but PASS on the early release money grab.

I am not a kickstarter, I paid for Beta Premium and access to beta thereof plus the LEP. Was a no brainer. There was also regular beta access upgrades to base game pre-buyers during 2014 before release etc.

Access to paid alphas or betas in Elite is a concept that goes all the way back to 2012-2014 period indeed. Elite alphas and betas, with all their bugs and issues have always been emminently playable and enjoyable for the most part. What buyers are paying for here in reality is not as much the "privilege" of bug hunting but simply the possibility to play the game earlier rather than later (no progress saved on release though).

Not saying this is what everyone should do, far from it, and feel free to pass. But at least that was precisely my case with the original Beta Premium.

I don't have anything against paying for beta. I payed for it for horizons. I don't think I will pay for alpha for Odyssey though.

I'm in.........

Already pre-ordered.... (Delux)

Even if I don't use many of the new things, I will continue to play as I do now.
I have had 5 years enjoyment out of this game/sim and I don't mind paying for that enjoyment.

A friend Of mine payed £50+ for half life alyx....
He told me it took him 17 hours to play through it and said it was worth every penny. When I said "but will you play again" he said "maybe in a year or so".

I believe £30-£40 for me is a good investment for the next couple of thousand hours playtime.

What we don't know is what Alpha will consist of. It could be a set of stages like the original release alpha and beta were, where pieces of the game were added in stages.

I am inclined to think Alpha might be staged like that, I think we might have new instancing at planet level, so glide transitions out of peer to peer, that and the new planet graphics might be good for a first stage, allowing opportunity to kill the instancing bugs and graphical glitches. Then introduce the hubs and on foot game play to test the transitioning on foot and the mission givers. Then move into things like combat with some basic missions. Beta then has all the missions added.
