Alright, so which game out there has similar handling to E:D?

Alas, I'm not in the alpha. The fault is entirely my own, that much is certain ;)

However, from the feedback so far, and the vids, it looks like this control scheme (notably, pitch+roll control primary with strafing separated out, and reduced-yawing) might need a lot of getting used to from my heathen mouse/kb using ways.

So, is there any other reasonably recent game that seems to fit Elite's handling model, that one could use to get used to the controls as such?

Independance war 1+2 - Elite Dangerous mimics the handling of Iwar 1/2 quite close , which is a good thing because Iwar is one of those few games that makes spaceflight quite fun.(only difference is that you can Yaw quite easy in Iwar), Be warned though that Iwar needs joystick.

On a smaller note BSG Diaspora is also close (though not as close as Iwar).

same controls as Elite on PC/Amiga, might be worth downloading Oolite for modern PCs

Flight sim style controls

Mouse is quite hard, would recommend Joystick or Gamepad (xbox 360 is good)

It works quite well with K/M but the other controls are tricky to get into a position where they are readily available. Without straying from the main controls.

I loved I-War2. I think it had the best of both worlds where it also had instant flight assist when wanted (you could flick it on and off at any time), but I don't recall it ever having the restricted yaw like ED. The way I fly in ED doesn't feel anything like IW2 to me simply because I have to roll and pitch constantly. I'm not saying there's anything particularly wrong with restricted yaw, but it makes flying for me a different experience to that of IWar2 (from memory).
