ALT-F4 like a boss

So, I was wondering, what is the point of playing in OPEN PLAY , if you are planning to ALT-F4 immediately upon interdiction ? Yes I am looking at you CMDR in Leesti that I was interdicting earlier. :) You know who you are. :)

This fella was so efficient I was literally in the interdiction minigame for less than 3 seconds before he ALT-F4'ed. Impressive.

Just FYI, you can out-run an Anaconda with virtually anything in the game. No need to ALT-F4.

Also, just for the record, I was not planning to shoot at you. There is no sport in actually pirating players with an anaconda. The only fun way to do that is in a viper or cobra. I was merely going to give you a canister of rare bunnies from 47 Ceti and have a little chat. :)

But honestly, common guy.

Report and move on. Sometimes it's a crash, but action won't be taken if people pick up the occasional report. It's the guys who pick up a lot of reports who may have issues.

To be fair, some user's report crashing/lock-ups during interdiction. I've had 2 myself, but its been ok since last update. Some of us want to fight. ;)

Honestly who cares if they do it? Move on and find another target to interdict. Be lucky they even decide to play open in the first place before you start complaining about them dropping out.

Seen this a lot lately myself and interestingly not far from Leesti either: Had a bit of a fight with someone who thought he could win because he was in a better ship. When I showed him who was boss, he alt f4 and left the game at %10 hull, no doubt resulting in turning up in a fresh ship the next time he loads up. Sad thing is he wont even have to pay for repairs

This is plain broken. Ships need to stay in the game for like a minute upon DC, let the AI take over and do some basic moves if necessary but atm its a full on exploit people are using anytime there ship looks like its gonna be destroyed.

Its not even a PvP centric thing.. Its just a way to exploit the game regardless of the situation. And I don't like exploiters one lil bit. :( *grumble grumble*

And it could have been a delay in the system even. I had one interdiction last night by a NPC, went ahead and submitted (fresh meat), and came out without an opponent. I waited for about probably 15 seconds, figured there was a bug or something, started to jump back out, and just as the countdown hit, I saw him appear. So who knows, could have been out of his control, don't assume a cheat right away.

Be careful what you wish for. The way the p2p architecture works that could be exploited by people to force disconnect you and then kill your ship while it persists in their game world.

You're actually lucky, I'd rather have someone do it before interdiction than afterwards. Basically you get the interdiction repair, slight ammo bill and the assault bounty and no cargo to show for it.

Just count it as a victory, you basically won without even having to shoot !

What does alt f4 do?

Alt F4 in Windows will close whatever program has focus at the time. It is disabled in some games.

The alternative is Ctrl-Shift-Escape which opens task manager immediately. Also the classic ctrl-alt-delete for opening task manager the slow way.

You can also hit Start button + D to quickly go to the desktop. Start + E opens explorer window. Start + R opens run command window. Start + L locks the session. I'm rambling now,

Technically alt-f4 doesnt do anything, at least it doesnt work on my end, just tried it to see. Pretty sure they have to manually pull the plug or hotkey a task kill script for their game or internet connection to do it efficiently, otherwise you have to alt tab to task manager and do from there.

I'm not entirely sure how you could remove my connection to the server without DDOSing me...

To explain: it's easy to figure out who disconnected because one lost connection to the other player, while one lost connection to the other player and the server. In the rare occurance the players lost connection with each other, traffic could just be routed through the server. It'd up the bills a bit, but not a lot, because it really won't happen often.

EDIT: There are no doubt more advanced tricksies one can play with networking to escape, but the above would deal with almost all of the issues, and shouldn't cause any player to be able to "force" anybody else to disconnect.

I would never do anything of the sort, and Im certainly not going to go into detail about how it could be done, but it could, which is probably why they don't have it work that way.

So I'm curious, how do you tell if someone Alt F4s? Do they vanish without a message? How is it different from say them self destructing?
