Alter camera view - outfitting

One of the most annoying aspects of outfitting [weapons and utilities] is the odd camera zoom of your ship.
I find it almost impossible to work out where on the ship the camera is viewing when selecting each weapon or utility slot. Try out fitting a Type -10 as an example.
The camera is so zoomed in you can't tell if you are looking at the top, bottom, front or rear of the ship.

Can't the user have some camera controls please FDev? Ability to zoom and pan would be nice :)
Otherwise, the new camera view of the ship in the game loading menu is nice (where you select solo/private/open).

Because setting mouse controlled camera view is too complicated. Instead we have gazillion key binds for every possible axis with alternative mode switches that doesn't work in outfitting. It still les me - who and why opted for such elaborated system when simple mouse input would do the trick. Even console controller is capable of that so ...

Said it before but I'd love to challenge somebody from FDev to identify the location of various hardpoints/utilities from the close-up view of them.

It's not terrible on every ship but there are some (T10, I'm definitely looking at you) where you simply can't tell where, on the ship, the vast majority of hardpoints/utilities are located.
When you're outfitting a T10, if you're trying to position, say, a PDT to protect the thrusters or the cargo hatch, pretty-much the only way to do it is to fit a PDT, launch the ship and then, while outside the station, use the external camera to find out if it's in a suitable position.

Ideally, for me, the hangar's should have been much bigger to accomodate a worthwhile free-camera.
Alas, the size of the hangar is dictated by the external dimensions of the hangar modules on orbital platforms, so that ship has probably sailed.
In that case, maybe outfitting needs to go in an entirely different direction?

With a view to (possibly, eventually) accomodating space-legs, it might be nice if outfitting was done from some kind of "office" overlooking the hangar.
You'd see your ship, through a window, below you and you'd be able to look down at some kind of terminal which displays all the available modules.
You select something and the terminal displays an isometric representaion of your ship and highlights all the locations where an item can be fitted.
You click one and that's where the item is fitted.

If not more camera freedom, then some kind of schematics displayed on the side, with current slot highlighted could do.
I agree, that would help a lot.
And, honestly, option to look around your ship when trying out new paintjob or ship kit would be very much apreciated too.
I agree this would be nice.
Now we have ship located in the hangar. This approach has drawback, for example there's no way to see whole ship - this will require huge FOV, because it is impossible to move away from the ship(viewer must remain in the hangar), and the result would be poor fish eye which probably won't improve anything.

I use the blueprints for that
Tho it's a common sense request, it would mean the outfitting should happen in a more vast space. The hangars are pretty tight - not much room to move the camera around.

It would be very simple to introduce 4 or so alternate camera views of the ship (above, left and right; below front and rear), even if these were just static and fixed view. There's really no excuse for not improving the outfitting.
I do agree with an earlier post - have an office with some monitors (caner views) and a schematic blueprint with the slots and available modules.

I challenge FDEV to produce a video of them outfitting a T10 and get it right first time without having to launch the thing and free camera roam to still how (badly) the outfitting went.

I suppose I can understand FDev wanting to keep the actual Outfitting within the game-world but I don't see why they need to do that with the cosmetics.

When you click "Livery", why not display the ship in something like the Holo-Me so we can get a good view of the stuff we're paying real money for?
