Alternate key bindings when hardpoints are hardpoints

Hi fellow commanders and Frontier development. I'm sure this is probably been suggested in some form or another before now. But just in case it hasn't, it would be very useful if we could have a completely separate keybinding set up for combat. It would have course be optional to use it just like alternate flight control and Landing overrides. In this case when I deploy my hardpoints, I can override a bunch of key bindings the suit my combat purposes.

Most of my time I'm just flying around the Galaxy. When I'm doing this I need a different set of keys to make things convenient. Mostly it's about navigation. I want to be in the jump cyberspace or super Cruise. I want to be able to open my Galaxy map with ease. I don't need to be able to cycle through subsystems. But in combat it is a different story. Now if I could override key bindings when my hard points were deployed, I can change key bindings for the face keys. Just a convenience.
 
I don't want to pour cold water on your proposal but how about the other times hardpoints are deployed - mining, scanning, etc?

I like the idea of alternative bindings. I guess it could work off the HUD mode instead of weapons deployment.
 
I like the general idea of keybind toggles. It would be nice to seemlessly switch from kbm or game pad to hotas instantly. The dual binding that are there are often not ideal for doing this. ( if the game pad is removed for instance)

Using a controller is nice for relaxing trade runs, but if i get attacked or interdicted i would like to be able to toggle to the hotas for combat.
 
Not sure how to do it. But it would be cool to have a different set up for combat. Maybe they should just give us several profiles for key bindings that are completely customizable. They can all be just like the one we have. Then if i want to make a profile for combat I can. Mining, space exploration, planet exploration? I can make ones for them also. What ever we want. Then let me give them titles. Then i can cycle through them or i can bind a button combo to engage one. Preferably I can bind buttons in the options to change them and do it either way. Like L1 or L2 to cycle, or To select them directly L1 or L2 plus arrows to choose 1.

Sometimes, I might want to have complete control over manual thrusters. Sometimes I don't need it, I'd rather have complete throttle control. If I wanted to land and dock without FA, I might want to control my thrusters with buttons and the throttle with the slider pad. So I could make a FA off landing profile. But sometimes I might want to land like a star wars fighter and have all my thrusters manually controlled with triggers and sticks. Except I lack one axis so usually my lateral thrusters are just boosters.

Even one extra profile would be good but I could probably find uses for more. Maybe 8 could be created.

Like I said. Not sure what would be best.

You can do that already (on PC that is) - I have two current variations (have been more) - of course you have to do it manually by editing the binds file name plus the name in line 2 of the file.

Of course you can't hot-swap them in game, you have to load the one you want in Options / Settings.

So maybe a hot-swap profile assignment in game.

The idea of HUD mode affecting fire-group selection (and vice-versa) is one I totally support.

Fire groups specifically for analysis mode does sound like a good idea to me too especially for mining. That way if somebody jumps you just switching back to combat mode is enough instead of fiddling around with your fire groups as well.

I have been trying to setup a new controller. There are different systems and I can setup things with modifier buttons and do a great deal as it is but there is only so much before it would be easier.

Systems are the modules essentially.

Weapons systems
Deploying
Changing groupd

Navigation
Maps

Power plant - no controls for this but has subsystems
Lights
Nightvision
Landing gear

Distributor
Rerouting power

Sensors
Targeting

Not a full list but I would like to think in terms of what system I am using when I group and bind. And in some situations I might need access to several similultaneouly like in combat. But I want to put the most important on the face buttons without button combos. Navigating in supercruise I like full throttle control including preset levels especially.
