Alternate ways of entering Frontier Gamescom competitions please?

I quit Twitter a few months back for various reasons, mainly because I'm concerned at how often the tool is used for social media "witch hunts" and "lynch mobs", and how often the admins make clearly biased decisions on false flagging, when reports of abuse are made by members of certain groups.

It'd be really appreciated if Frontier could offer alternate methods of entering these delicious-sounding Gamescom competitions.
I'm referring to this update https://community.elitedangerous.com/node/242

Looking forward to Gamescom regardless!

Edit: to clarify, I'm not against social media in general being used in competitions. But options would be nice for those that use other social media sites/tools.

Agree 100%. Being that I live in Australia, attending in person is not possible. And I also avoid social media - and even if I did use things like twitter, because of real life commitments I woudn't be able to connect regularly enough or for long enough anyway. Tough luck for me I guess, but not a fan of things like this. Instead of the social media requirement it would have been fairer to just pick x number of accounts each day to receive the paintjob or chance to name a planet as a celebration (in addition to those attending getting one, which I'm fine with) - at least that way everyone has an equal chance without feeling the need to unnecessarily jump on the social media bandwagon.

Agreed.

I'd love to go but my budget won't allow it and I too avoid the plague that's social media, especially Twitter and faecesbook.

It is fair enough that they want those with social media access to use it: after all what they want is publicity, and essentially the prizes are 'paying for' the advertising campaign. So although I have not tweeted for ages, I have no problem with that approach. But having a little twitter-free entry capability on the community site would be a nice nod to those that do not want to have anything to do with twitter.

Don't worry, that Gamescom info page title aptly describes what the Tweeting for the competition is all about:

It would be nice, but off social media competitions don't have the exposure.

I wouldn't worry about it honestly

Yeah i dont use social media aswell. Would prefer if they do such contests you have some other option to parcipate also.
Anyway i will be at work so i wont have a chance to see the questions and give answers anyway.

How hard is it to have a twitter account solely for Elite?

You don't have to get involved in any of the other stuff going on if it concerns you.

Twitter is gladly very benign, you just need an email address to sign up. I loathe these things on facebook, though, where one step too far and it demands some real life credentials from your or it will lock you out of that account you just made to participate in this one things.

I agree with the OP anyway, it's annoying when something like this is held via any form of third party service, I don't like it even when it is one that I do use (irregularly).

I've already fairly clearly explained why I am uncomfortable supporting Twitter in any way. Having a Twitter account is "getting involved".
I'd appreciate it if there were more helpful responses rather than "just get a Twitter account". If giving more options to enter the competitions can't be done, it can't be done, and that's fine, whatever. However if nobody ever lets Frontier know that their choice of social media tool discourages people from entering the competitions they run, how else will they find out?

Hehe, sorry I understand the context you're using, I just never saw Twitter described as "benign" before! LOL

Or make the skin available at a later stage for purchase. I would be happy with that. Give the winners 4 weeks of exclusive access, then add it to the store for those that couldn't enter or attend.

Knowing my luck the skin is the wireframe Cobra skin and I will miss out again, but maybe its just another Eagle skin lol :p
