Newcomer / Intro Always on, alway playable?

Hi all, very new to Elite, and the forum. It took a while to get get to know Elite and its features (my first station landing took a full 8 minutes), but loving it now...

A big concern of me: Will Elite still be playable when the server shut down eventually? I know a lot of money was made witg the kickstarter, but sometime the servers will shut down... Will the game be ajusted so that single player will still be available?

When the announcement came out FD said that if their servers ever close then they will look to freeze the game data and release it for private hives. To be honest though the game will be dead by the time this happens for most people.

Best in mind though that this game is not only a money spinner but also David Brabens baby, the culmination of years of development and something he must be very attached to, so I don't think the decision would be taken lightly, also there are almost endless possibilities with regards to expansion so as long as the foundations remain modern and current it will always be viable to sell users the next big update.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. By the time the servers for this are shut down you will be done with it anyway.

What you should be worrying about is if your Internet connection goes down. I had a line fault about a month ago which took BT 5 days to fix. That's 5 days I couldn't play Elite! Was a travisty I can assure you...
