Am I an explorer?!

  • Why do I have no interest in going to Sag A?
  • Can I call myself an explorer if I have no interest in going to the centre?
  • Why do I always find myself wandering off to the edges or hunting the areas with the least stars?
  • Why do I find it more amusing to see how high or low on the Z I can go before I dangerously run out of stars!
  • Why do I find it entertaining to put myself in the middle of endless fields of browns with little chance of refuelling just to play chicken with myself??!!

At the moment I am blue star hopping only. Why?!! It's a real pain when you're trying to get somewhere!!

These are the questions I ask myself in the black…

1. Sgr A* is not a requirement for an explorer.
2. sure exploring on the rim is more difficult anyway
3. because its more difficult
4. because its more difficult
5. because you're crazy (also it's difficult)

you just sound like you like a challenge! Fly safe CMDR (or in your case, you know... don't)

Hey lest see how close we can get to that Class A before we get killed - all for a selfie!

Great idea! :/

Getting to Srg A* is pretty easy.
But getting there in under 13 hours, that's quite a challenge.
Try the Buckyball Run A*

  • Why do I have no interest in going to Sag A? - It's a rite of passage, but you're not obligated to make the journey
  • Can I call myself an explorer if I have no interest in going to the centre? - Of course you can, because ...
  • Why do I always find myself wandering off to the edges or hunting the areas with the least stars? - This makes you an explorer! Because it's there, and it piques your interest.
  • Why do I find it more amusing to see how high or low on the Z I can go before I dangerously run out of stars! - Because you're an explorer who tests themselves against the galaxy.
  • Why do I find it entertaining to put myself in the middle of endless fields of browns with little chance of refuelling just to play chicken with myself??!! - Why do I play chicken "running the canyon" between close contact binaries with over 100M Cr of data? BECAUSE IT'S FUN!

  • There are a number of reasons not to visit Sag A. Not doing so because you just don't wanna is perfectly fine. It's a goal of mine, eventually. I'm just in no hurry to take on the trip.
  • If you explore, you explore, whether it be in colonized space only, nebulae focused, or on the outer edges of any area of the galaxy. It's about what you want to see and what challenges you feel are appropriate and fun for you.
  • Probably because you find it amusing to see how high or low you can go on the Z axis :p
  • You probably go there because most go coreward. I like to see it all, so I oscillate between traveling coreward or outward (even on the Z axis). Besides, it's an awesome sight to see the galaxy from above and below, just to get a sense of the scale.
  • Because risk seems to give you a rush. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you're not gambling your life savings away IRL :D

But yeah you're definitely an explorer. Welcome to the club :)

Don't worry OP. I've been exploring since Gamma, and still not been to the center. Its too common a destination. Posted this in another thread, but will post it again here:

When there are more of your friends in the core than in the homeworlds, its just an incentive to head off in another direction.

You're absolutely an explorer, and the best kind, an independent, free spirited wanderer, doing your own thing in your own time.

Sag A* is just a black hole. Back in the early days, when it was a couple of weeks of struggle plotting a route by hand or with the limited 100ly route planner, getting there was an achievement... these days you can book onto a tour bus there with your family from Lave which leaves once an hour. As Zenith said, it's kind of a rite of passage for some pilots, but its not a requirement.

Pick your own challenges, choose to achieve the things you want to achieve and keep flying the happy skies, and you're a true explorer, and no man can take that from you.

About Sagittarius A*, some people say it is just tourism.
I was always curious about it long before ED came out, I'm only going there to satisfy that curiosity.

As for being a true explorer, I will only consider myself one after planetary landing hits and I will see no point to ever come back to civilization.
Space… the final frontier…
You get the point :)

A real explorer!

Although it's a little strange you called Ferdinand Daphne. Didn't realise it was a crossdressing dot.
Meh! She's Daphne the Dancing Dot. So what if she occasionally role plays Ferdinand the Frolicking ????????? [Can't think of a suitable forum friendly word starting with F]

That's how I feel sometimes!! Out there in the endless black!!!

The Road Not Taken
~~
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
~~
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
~~
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
~~
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
