Am I doing something wrong here? :/

Hello, commanders.

Ok, got to Maia system to get one meta-allow to unlock that lady engineer. Didn't have idea how long it will take me to get there (cca 30 jumps), died first time since didn't have fuel scoop, etc. (yeah, rookie here).

As finally landed got offer for 23 Mil credits mission to obtain Thargoid biological matter.
Eyes popped-out since 23 Mills are double I have atm.

Found a site where Thargoid&Human ships crashed, took into SRV one of the Thargoid containers as I read I need it to open the door of their base.

Got there but seams my THARGOID UNIT FROM CARGO VANISHED (SRV and ship). So no enteranance to alien base...

Lost three days hanging around Maia system, decided to take just meta-allows and unlock engineer (there will be time to check on Thargoids when I get little stronger).

Bought one meta-allow from the base of that professor, started to jump toward lady engineer, scooped fuel on the fly and after dozens of jumps noticed that META-ALLOW DISSAPEARED AS WELL FROM MY CARGO!

Am I doing something wrong?
Is Thargoid cargo (white with tentacle) perishable? (I know they are corrosive)
Is meta-allow perishable?!

Sorry for the long post, I'm a bit frustrated, in the middle of the nowhere, thinking should I go back to Maia once again (professor's nice mission that could give me a nice boost or just to pick another meta-allows) or forget all, continue back to human systems... :/

Many thanks,
CeloPile

They are corrosive and will eat your ship. This will eventually result in a cargo hatch failure and anything you are carrying will literally start to fall out.

To combat this, you either need corrosion resistant cargo racks from Professor Palin or you need to nursemaid your ship with an AFMU as you fly.

You don't need to unlock Palin but I think you do need an invitation to land at his base and access the outfitter.

The alien stuff (not the meta alloys) can corrode various modules if you don't have corrosive resistant cargo racks.
I guess that happened on your first jaunt, and the cargo dropped out.
Then, if you didn't repair when you docked, any subsequent cargo you get could also drop out.

That's all I can think of :)

Meta Alloy is persistent non corrosive. either you had a jettison mishap loosing it or perhaps your cargohatch was damaged by the thargoid sensor and you did not repair it? a damaged cargohatch malfunction and may prematurely jettison cargo.

You sure you bought the meta-alloys 'from the base of the professor'?
1) You sound like you probably haven't unlocked him, so he won't let you in
2) He doesn't usually have any - Darnielle's Progress has them

Might be worth double checking you actually bought them next time - I often have that in the SRV where I forget to confirm a transfer ans wonder why my hold is still full.

Guide to the Palin Mission in my sig has more details for that mission - you do not need to go into the base at all.

Good luck o7

Yes, repair your ship and get the meta-alloy from Darnielle's Progress. Don't pick up any of that corrosive Thargoid stuff. That's for later, when you have Palin's special cargo racks.

I did that mission last night for 17 mill....guess I got ripped off. Fortunately my vette took the corrosive abuse long enough to get the goods back to Obsidian. I was lucky though and found all I needed at the crashed scout ship so I wasn't running about with a couple modules of the stuff very long.

I'm not 100% sure this works having only tried it once and it did appear to work for me.
You can deactivate your cargo hatch and then it won't malfunction.

I am of course expecting to be corrected and find it was just luck on my part.

Probably just luck Zed. It is safer to carry an Auto Module Repair Unit. and check that modules stay above 80%. below that, random malfunctions happen. Also: having a variety of modules equipped spread the damage around.

I was going to post the same thing as Zed. Out of habit, I usually have my hatch deactivated for power management sake. It never occurred to me to carry an AFMU, although I used my DBX during Palin/Felicity related missions. I usually have one equipped on that ship. Because of the good jump range--- even on a stock DBX, I didn't have anything that was a problem for long. Usually just minutes.

you had the 4 resin. 4 biological is 23, technology is somewhere in between. Resin spawns more often.

Oookaaaay... I think most of u got it right... Thats what u have for taking a bigger bite then prepared.

I had no idea cargo missfunction can make goodies drop! So cool! Hahaha

I did repair ship, first thing I do when land (along with fuell fill and restock ammo).

My conclusion:
- first fail when I lost alien cargo unit and couldnt open alien base door was due to corrosion - lost cargo
- second time when I lost meta alloy was due to the cargo hatch problem that happen few times due to the oveheat while fuel scooping

Thank you all so much for quick response and great advices.
Looking forward to get back to my ship (to real life) and give it a try once again with that lucritive mission. I am at the business trip atm, wasting time on stupid things with stupid distractions instead dedicate my time to really important stuff! ;)

Cheers, I will let u know in few days if I made it...

And sorry for my English, hope Im clear.
