Horizons Am I doing something wrong is it really that hard too find anythning of real value?

HI! i have been mining now for bit and have send out many prospectors.. I have gotten a few minerals and have found stuff like Sulfur and other minerals.. though I faill to see anhthing of any real value yet.

I have been to High Rez places and marked as HAZ ( figuring that if its Hazerdous then it must contain high amounts of good stuff ) but no cigar.. just very low level stuff..( Sawahinn ) and went to the ringed planet and went to where its marked HAZ .. and also where it was marked HIGH extraction..

1: I think "Indite "was the highest I got in minerals
2: I think " Cobalt" was the highest I got in ores but maybe I got a little higher but its still not even half way up ..

So am I doing something wrong or missing a step or something.. ( I realize that I will not hit Gold on the first shot ) but I was expecting a little more at the higher ricks areas some about 5000 for ores..
Is Sawahinn around the Ring a wrong place at the moment? or do I just keep on trying?

ALSO: My refinery is FULL! How do we empty it without lossing its content? is there a storage locker somewhere? is there a way to move it to cargo?


BTW can someone give me the link of all the ores and there prices.. ( I had it then lost it )

Rare and very rare stuff is rare

I get most of mine from missions. I always check the board when in station if the missions are giving rare or very rare stuff I always do the mission.

Are you saying that some missions give you ores or rare minerals in exchange for services rendered ( instead of cash/credits ) ?

Sorry reading fail on my behalf, I thought you were asking about materials for engineers rather mining ores/metals.

Missions do give metals as rewards sometimes, but not often.

Are you in pristine metallic rings? Are you in the correct ring A vs B?

Normally painite and palladium are about when I go mining.

RES typically give you more fragments per roid but you will likely be attacked by pirates very quickly. Better to just drop into a ring away from RES for a quiet life.

Well... not "Wrong" just not profitable.

As Racer1 says above... Metallic Rings - Pristine, if possible, but Major Reserves, and Common are OK to start in.

Empty the Refinery Bins regularly of anything that is NOT high Value (Those being... Painite, Platinum, Palladium.... and if you want Gold and Osmium. There are others like Taafeitte (spelling) and Cold Temperature Diamond in the Rocky and Icy rings - respectively - But Metallic Rings are the best starting place)

Scroll cursor down to the bin you want to empty and hit your <select> key (whatever you have it programmed as)

Take about 80 - 90% of your cargo full of limpets. Use the prospector limpets to find the rocks with the higher values... then mine ONLY those.
If the Asteroid doesn't have AT LEAST 10-15% of what you are looking for... it isn't worth the time or the limpets you'll have to spend to come up with a sizable amount.

Unless you are wanting to get involved with NPC Pirates about every 3 minutes or so... recommend staying away from the marked Rez sites... Though a Lo-Haz Res is likely patrolled by local authorities and should be safe enough. Just fly down in super-cruise until you can barely see the rock starting to form.. and cut engines to zero... you should coast right into the drop zone.

Hey OP, some tips...

1. Stay out of res zones. Just ease into the rings anywhere at <1000km/s
2. Find Pristine Metallic rings. You can locate these using your system maps. There are websites that will find ones near you (but I can't get to them at the moment).
