Heh, it seems I've then been lucky...I'd say about 75% of the water worlds I've explored have had only tiny land masses, or were almost completely devoid of visible ground. But the rest have looked pretty dry though!

Wish I'd taken a screenshot, but I found an "Earth-Like World" which was about twice the size of our Earth but was almost entirely water except for one tiny island about the size of Luxembourg 
So that was pretty much the exact opposite of the OP's findings
