Am I Helping?

Hello all. Been playing the hell out of Elite since it officially launched and am enjoying it quite a bit. I decided to pursue an unhealthy career of collecting bounties. What I would like to know if anyone can clue me in if my bounty hunting actually helps the system at all or am I just lining my pockets with space-rogue credits?

Thanks,
~C

If you want to improve your standing in the system, as I know it, you need to do missions from the bulletin board, for example trade missions or kill missions. Killing Wanted's may make loads of cash but to be in with the local's you need to do a little more of the other stuff.

There have been comments from someone that continued bounty hunting in one location appeared to lower the number of high-value bounties he collected there, but no-one (outside of the devs) knows whether this is an actual function or just a perceived change.

You could test it by persistently hunting at one nav point and recording your bounties, I suppose. It would be nice to find out that your activities do affect the piracy rates in a system, but I wouldn't expect something easily measured.

Ah okay. Was just curious if killing off pirates in a system had any effect on the local trade, etc. Well, I'll just assume it does. :)

I have been killing pirates in 3 areas and have not seen a drop in their value. I have seen the other, bigger and harder ships come out to attack me instead.

i have had this happen to me also, was killing sidewinders the other night for their bounties and next thing I know a Python and Anaconda arrives from the same faction, luckily the Anaconda never had a bounty on it but the Python did so I went after the Python.

It seems to help with reputation, but whether or not it has any effect on the factions' influence values, I have no idea.

I am in a system with 2 factions only: An independent one and a pirate one.
~
I killed many 100 of the pirate faction. It seems that the pirate ships become less in the system when you do that (for example I hardly become interdicted anymore in that system)..
But others than that I saw 0 influnece change of both factions.

I am not sure if it's because the background simulation is buggy or not working or if me killing of 100 of pirates in a saystem of about 1000 ppl is really irrelevant to the system.

I was just killing 1k - 2k pirates at first, but now its more like 50-80k pirates now. Its still nice to pop a sidewinder, even better when its pilot is Elite
