Am I playing this right?

Hi,

last Friday I had some time, so decided to pack in my current trade routes my Cobra had and head 130ly from Lave towards the center of the galaxy.
I flew through many anarchy systems fuel scooping all the way and decided I'd made enough distance to start all over again.

Opening up the galaxy map no matter how I filtered I could not find any decent population, economy and even struggled to find any type of system that was not a star.
When finally finding a system with a Coriolis I docked to a traffic report of <10 and zero bulletin board missions.
I changed lots of filters around and finally got a decent clump of systems around 30ly back in the direction I came.

So, am I playing this correctly? is it because none of these areas are 'known'? Why did the ability to trade just die on me?

I mean, you flew out into the sticks? Expecting to find Manhattan?

Some places are just quiet, for a while I inhabited a little backwater where sometimes the only traffic was myself. The further you get from the core systems, the less people you will find, eventually the stations peter out altogether and you enter the domain of the wild-eyed Asp pilots who babble incessantly about the neutron star that got away and warn you to stay away from the Horsehead nebula, because there's something in there and it isn't friendly. Stay away from those people, they don't shower.
