Newcomer / Intro Am I set for long journeys?

another new explorer question... what happens when you log off for the night? does your ship just stay out in space waiting for you to log in? can it be destroyed?

For other players and NPCs alike, it just vanishes for the duration of log off. For you, it stays where you left it. The latter means that if you park your ship in an asteroid field or very close to a planet/moon on their orbit, you may experience an "unexplained" ship destruction on next log on.

Nothing. You're safe. It's possible to get into trouble if you log out while in a RES or something, but as long as you log somewhere in free space you should be fine.

What I do is move slightly away from the central star first, just because I'm paranoid.

This mine setup i have 26LY with mine Adder

Low fuel/repair cost = higher profit from exploring

I used an Adder for exploration trips before I got my ASP, and I loved my Adder! People sometimes complain about the cockpit view, which is sort of limited, but less of an issue these days with the debug camera. I'd never trade my ASP, mind you, but I still have fond memories of my that little ship.

Explore well and far Commander!

I liked the adder but the cockpit view did irk me. An INF range advanced discovery scanner totally fixes that, though...

I've had a great many dicoveries! A few earth-likes, a couple water worlds and some interesting ringworlds. Once I locate my screenshots, I'll throw down some pics. I've taken to scanning all stars and interesting-looking planets. I wish I had time to scan them all! :(

I have no problems with the cockpit view, I love mine Adder.
debug camera helps also for better viewing
and this is all what I could afford, a outfitted ASP is around the Cr, 12000000,00
I have travel now 2500LY heading to CL Pismis 16

Note that you do not have to have a perfect exploring ship to explore.

I found my first new system in a cheap adder on a long trek to the coal sack playing a couple of days after I started.

I've been doing my best to head toward the Witch's Head nebula. Having a tough time on my current route but I have found some pretty interesting systems.

Nearly cooked myself alive by jumping into an unexplored system with 2 core stars right on top of each other. The jump landed me right in between the two just after my disengagement showed me exiting through one of them, lol. I don't think I ever want to see 130+ on the temp gauge again.

I've also found some ringworldsm orbiting other ringworlds... A ringworld that's so large the thumbnail in the system view is broken. 2 earthlike planets orbiting each other... A system with 2 earthlikes and a water world! Now that would be a popular destination!

So obviously my 18.5ly jump is still somewhat limited. I have seen systems that are still just out of my reach. Can y'all share what your builds are that get you upward of a 25ly jump range so I have an idea of what to work toward?

Fen Harel, you are so far out there, my lord...

I think I'm going to take some inspiration from other intrepid explorers and stay out here for a long time. I will be entering the With Head Nebula today. From there I may travel to the Monkey Head Nebula and then see what interests me from there.

I plan to make a new thread with my interesting finds later on, but for now have these:

Two suns right next to one another. Nothing too incredibly special judging by other posts, but it was my first encounter. Wouldn't be my last.

Just a pretty composed ringworld:

Massive amount of rings on this old dwarf. Once a sun! Still considered so, it seems. A sun with rings! Whodathunkit?

A system with six stars.

A muddy water world.

A variety of stars in this system.

I loved the colors on these rings. One of my more unique discoveries.

This. THIS. This nearly destroyed me. I entered this system THROUGH the sun on the right. I physically witnessed myself passing out of it as I powered down from frame shifting. I barely escaped with nearly 150% on my temp gauge. And I thought I had to watch out for neutron stars, sheesh...

A fat ringworld. So far it broke the thumbnail in system view.

An earthlike with a moon just like Sol system. Was rather refreshing to see.

2 Earthlikes in one system! Future tourist destination?

Massive ringworld #1. I was impressed by it's sheer size.

Then I found this: Massive Ringworld #2. The system already sported a rather large star, but this world's rings stretched much further than the star's diameter.

It. Is. HUGE.

And very pretty from above. Look at all those rings!!

Then I found this guy. A very pretty multicolored ringworld with interspersed rings.

A closer shot.

At the risk of my life. I flew full throttle in between the rings. I lived. I did not get chucked out of supercruise. The transition was smooth from one side to the other. Cheers to Frontier for allowing such a feat and not making the entire space occupied by the rings a solid object.

My journey continues tonight.

I also just want to throw out there that while I am on of "those" people who does not surface scan every planet in a system, I do scan every star within reasonable range. I can at least help others with planning fuel scoops, right?

Edit: I've started a new thread in the exploration section of the forums. If anyone is interested in keeping up with my antics...
