Your ship explodes because physics happens - Enter Mickey Mouse Physics - A stock Sidewinder weighs 25T, half speed = 110m/s (246MPH). A 25 Tonne [Short/Long tons?] object hitting another object of equal or greater mass for around anywhere between 1-2 seconds = BOOM! [F = 25000 * (110/1) = 2,750,000N or 618,225 lbf [Pounds-force].
That's making wild assumptions - Like there is no bend/spring in the shield/hull [like a car's crumple zone], therefore no stopping distance.
If you can tell me one object that can withstand 618,225 lbs of force, I'd be totally impressed. Maybe if we had the spec sheet for the shields and hull, we could probably work it all out.. But I want to put my bets on that it will just blow the hell up anyway.
