Am I the only one chatting with stations?

Reason I got curious was I was having issues getting clearance to dock.

Kept sending requests for a minute, nothing.

Started sending silly insults to the docking chief. :D

Wasn't till I said "Come on man! I'll give you $5" that I was instantly granted access.

I followed that up with something like "HAHAHA Sucker!" :p

Then when I got to my pad I came down and just grinded. :S I noticed the docking holo was pointing towards me/backwards! Yawed 180, and touched down facing the entrance. I still think that guy was messing with me...

the backwards holo is listed in the known issues thread but wouldn't it be cool if that happened by design :)

my cmdr name is the same as my real name and i'll chat if you're in my area, problem is most chat takes place in SC and unless your both going the same way you are very quickly out of range. i've said hi to a few peeps and had one reply so far, but they went out of range to say much more.

i'm doing the ERANIN to I BOOTIS run so feel free to give me a shout, oh and in case your thinking you can steal my cargo - 2 class 3 and 2 class 2 gimbled beam lasers on my Mk3 say you dont have a prayer :D

hint: Lookout for a CMDR with the first name of Andy and a surname starting with B

Korr,

did send you a friend request, not sure if or what sort of notification you will get ;)

maybe on the main menu?

AndyB,

the search function did not find you, don't know why. else i would have a friend request to you too

I've tried chatting with NPC haulers.. but for some reason my friendly 'Surrender" and ' drop your cargo' chats went without response.

I guess my guns really do talk for me.

But more seriously.. the text chat is a little unwieldy at the moment. I had a commander send me a friendly greeting, that I noticed 5 mins later in a different system! I felt rude for not responding, but just hadn't seen the message.

There was no way to reply either.

I'd like some sort of 'incoming message' alert and the option to hit a key for fast reply, or in my case ask my computer to do so :)

This give me an idea actually... Why not have canned pirate dialog w/ NPC? If i want them to drop cargo I choose Txt >Demand Cargo, then it sends them a random hostile notice like "Dump your cargo or suck vacuum!" or "AHOY MATEY YAAARRR!!!!" or sings them a sea shanty :D

I got this

Dunno what to do with it though...

I have also tried sending quick `what`s up` messages to others in game. most of the time they do reply. BUT it is kind of hard to use the chat system as is while trying to regulate SC and fly towards ur destination!

I`m guessing WE may be trying to use the system not in the way it was designed perhaps? Someone mentioned about general side chat being the death of MMO above - heres the thing though with this game:

with all those light years of space and solo life of a long haul trader, explorer/miner, when you do see that holo blip of a fellow human wouldnt you WANT to get in touch for a pointless chat to stave off bordem or the gnawing loneliness of deep space? from a RP point of view....

It realy is true in space no one can hear you scream or talk? What I have noticed is that its quiet up there lots of backers but where are they, I try and team up but its so quiet.

Because there is no benefit to playing in the multiplayer mode.

Dogs bits that realy is disappointing, I wouldn't even mind if someone tried to pirate me, I am so desperate for human contact even a good old grieffing would be nice.

You're not alone, an NPC pirate asked me what I was carrying in my cargo bay. To which I replied "Nothing for you!" and frame shifted out of there.

If they do a public style chat it should be limited to the current instance, and station you are docked in. That would go along way to turning the stations into social hubs, instead of just trading ports.

As for my experience chatting with others it has been alright. Most of the time we're zipping around so quickly, I'll usually slow down if I get a reply.

However in one instance at CM Draco I had plenty of time to chat with another trader, even at 600c it takes forever to reach the station in that system. It was a pretty cool experience as we talked about what we were both doing making that insane run, and then swapped tips about lucrative trading opportunities.

Soo basically you're alone unless you frame shift. Everyone knows an NPC pirates spewing some scripted speech that has a scripted outcome is no different to being alone, sat in front of your computer. It's nice when games do that to make us feel special and immersed but at the end of the day it's just the PC who, no matter what we reply, will not display any human emotion to affect it's decision if we don't do as asked. But I guess once a person has spent the past 20 years sat behind a screen playing the elite games a person wouldn't ever see a difference between an NPC and a Player as they've probably forgotten that a player is someone who actually exists outside the game.
