PvP Am I to old for PVP

I have been playing ED since it was still in beta. Back then I played in open and never really saw many players. Went to a community goal one time and got into a fight with another player and got to visit the re-buy screen for that fight. I took a break for a while then came back around 6 months ago. I have spent a lot of time in the game in solo or in a private group but never really tried open or any pvp again. But after being back I have been up for trying new things. So I have been engineering my ships and playing around killing Thargoid scouts and trying my hand at soloing a Cyclops with not a lot of luck. So I really feel at this point I would like to learn how to be a better pilot and felt that the people who fly in open and hone their skills in Pvp are the place that could possibly help me to achieve that goal. But I am older and pushing 60 years old and I don't know if that would hamper me from becoming a better pilot because sometimes your motor skills slow down and you get confused on what buttons to push at what time. I may not even have my rig set up right to be able to do what I need to do. But being as old as I am does not prevent me from learning new things and getting better at the things I enjoy. So do you think an old dog can learn new tricks and learn how to enjoy Pvp?

Absolutely as long as you have infinite patience and enough love for the game to keep on trying despite seemingly dismal failure. I am 53 and also in the process of trying to PvP simply because NPCs are becoming boring.

My only experience in PvP is CQC. I am truly a potato at it but I can see I am getting better ..... slowly. And I am proud of myself that my love of flying better is greater than my ego's decimation.

It's so beautiful to see the great pilots fly. They make it seem so easy. But they, too, had to put in the time and learn. This is how I expect some of them may have learned:

1. Watch tutorial videos. I love the ones by Vindicator Jones on maneuvering. Commander Truesilver is also amazing. Memorize them.
2. Baby steps, especially for we the aged. Practice one maneuver over and over until it becomes instinctual. Hesitation kills.
3.Join a squadron and look for cohorts and feedback.
4.As for PvP in Open, look at the meta builds and try practicing on Npcs first with those particular meta fixed weapons. This will inform you where your maneuverability needs honing. That in turn will inform you which buttons need to be most readily available. Settling on the optimum bindings for your play style is an ongoing process and might change a lot.
5. Currently I've discovered that many great pilots simply plunk their throttle in the blue zone whilst in combat. Acceleration/deceleration is done via thrusters and boost. Always have a button readily available to toggle 50% throttle.
6.Try flying full FA off for the sheer joy of it. Moxen Wolf and Look Inverted have great tutorials. Their flying is awe inspiring.
7. More patience.
8. Never put limitations on yourself that you have not absolutely rigorously tested. Jumping to conclusions is all too easy.

I started the game only last year so my suggestions are probably not optimal, but they are a start. Hopefully the more experienced will respond to your query.

Here's to dying a lot and absolutely loving it.

It's all down to personal ability. I know some folks in your age range who don't have the reaction times and know they don't, and others in your age range who do.

Give it a shot. Even for the players below your age range, while there are some real hot- PvPers out there, I'd venture to guess that the majority of folks who engage in or are willing to engage in PvP are in the novice to middling category.

I am in the skreb category.

heh - I suck at hardcore PvP. I'll be the first to admit it.

I have fought some of the better folks in small ships and made a good show of it. But my medium-large ship skills are really lacking.

It's why I gave up on the Krait. My ability to keep it alive was non-existent.

The Cobra on the other hand, I can reliably jump other lone players (piracy) and evade hostiles (trade).

Coming of age, nothing beats cunning and old treachery.

Can't shot strait anymore, falling out of time... They are simply faster and more accurate.
However, most of 'em go for what they'll do best.... going fast, strait at you, relying on brute reflexes, not skill.

Outsmart them. Most wannabe interceptors can't fly at all.

ps

Fair fights are for sissies
Hit them hard and run

I went from barely able to survive in a cz in an Anaconda to a full fledged, FA off, pvp machine in about 6 months.

I built a FDL with all PA's and later a FAS with all PA's and picked 1v1's with the most elite pilots on Xbox.
At first they just made minced meat out of me and I could barely drop their shields before dying but as I worked at it and practiced more and more, I eventually got to where I could get them down to about 10% armor before dying. I still lose to elite pilots quite often but now it's a lot closer of a fight and I'm still learning.
However I am only 31 and I'm not sure how much of a difference age actually makes and how your hand, eye coordination is but you should never just give up without trying.

Here's the YouTube channels I watch all the time to learn more about how to pvp.

I'm not sure what you are saying? But yes, I was around 22 when the original Super Mario and Zelda came out. I still have some of the original Nintendo Power magazines.

The evolution of computer games has been incredible to experience.
