Am I too late to start a Space Station

Sorry for the noob question I have been away for a couple of years as i was a console player and totally missed the message that we could port across.

So hopefully my few billion credits comes with me and i can jump in where i left off!

Now i have literally just got back on so i sawe someone saying they only had a few hours left to build a space station. Is that the case or is it time limited per player not a one off event im about to miss!

I am gonna go try to ready up what i missed in the last 2 years right now, but having a space station seems like a ncie way to welcome myself back to the game!!! so wanted to ask quickly before the game downloads etc.

Cheers and again apologies!

There's a four week time limit on completing the first outpost / station in the newly colonised system. After that the System Architect can add to the system as and when they feel like it with no time limit.

Lovely thank you, and it can be achieved solo? pretty sure anyone i used to play with will have disappeared in these years :p

once you claim a system you have 28 days to build the primary port
you can pick a small, medium or big station (t1 t2 t3) as a primary port

the small outposts are 22000 tons, coriolis (t2) 71000tons and the t3 orbis is 210 000 tons delivered.
The poster who you mention used a t7 (low cargo ship) to haul and didnt have much time.

I would suggest building an outpost (22000t) if you are strapped for time, and dont have a cutter or helpers

Apparently there are some people who offer hauling services but the demand greatly surpass supply.

It can indeed - the choice of first thing to build in the system may significantly affect likelihood of completion in the four week window though, e.g. an outpost needs of the order of 17,000 22,000 units of cargo to be delivered whereas something bigger may require multiples of that quantity.

Keep in mind the estimated time to build each outpost type, if you're strapped for time, go for one of the smaller ones.

Rough estimate (if using a Type 9 or Imperial Cutter with ca 780 tons cargo capacity):
T1 Outpost: Circa 6 hours of hauling.
T2 Coriolis/Asteroid Mining Base: Circa 20-25 hours of hauling.
T3 Orbis/Ocellus: Circa 60+ hours of hauling.

It's easy to get burned out if you choose a too big station for the first station in a system, which has a 4-week time limit, after which all work is lost unless completed before that time limit expires. After the initial station is completed in a system, you can build all you want in that system without a time limit.

Thanks so much guys I got a cutter, cash and time but no knowledge ( or forgotten a lot) so a coriolis or even a outpost might be better than trying to blast out an orbius or similar then.

so once i built the outpost for example, i read something about building tokens or similar. Do i need those, or can i finish the outpost and then jsut start up on a T3 ocelus for example.

Game just loaded and im off into the black for the first time in years so if you see an turquoise cutter ( dont ask) with thargoid weapons give me a chance :)

The first station that you build can be either a Tier 1 (civilian outpost*), T2 (Coriolis or asteroid base) or T3 (Orbis or Ocellus) and you have only 28 days to complete, which is why a T1 outpost is usually the choice due to the lowest amount of materials required.
Have a look at
After the first station is built, you must build T1 stuff to gain Tier 2 points and build T2 stuff to gain T3 points. 3 T2 points are required to build a T2 station (like a Coriolis) and 6 T3 points to build a Orbis/Ocellus). Hence some decide to try and build the big stuff in 28 days.

And in case you want to make a lasting mark on the galaxy, for an ARX payment you can rename stations. Fancy an "Icklehobo's Rest"?

* Starts with a colony economy (as does the Coriolis, Orbis and Ocellus) that can be influenced by the planet/moon it is orbiting, the stuff orbiting the same body and on the body it orbits, and then the influence from stuff elsewhere in the system. Build a station above a WW or ELW and you should get a tourist econ on your station. And a big pop!

Thanks for that very helpful too.

So last question, i just jumped to a few grey areas and they are all just random 2 star systems with no planets. Is there an area anyone is concentrating on or just pot luck?

Use the galaxy map architect view to see existing colonised systems and potential new spots. You may already know, but you have to chain off an existing system. Explore systems local to that to find a system you like, or you can just look them up on sites like the Elite Dangerous Star Map. Personally, I prefer exploring.

There are groups and squadrons that are focused on colonisation, if that is your thing :)

Many people have gone their own way, even constructing (sometimes many) outposts in a system with say, a single star or two in it, as a stepping stone to a more resource-rich system where they can make something "better."

There are commanders I've hauled materials for who are colonizing toward SagA, loosely following the path toward Colonia. I'm in the Pleaides area helping several systems and hope more commanders decide to bridge the gap toward the Orion Nebula (and Witch Head). I'm sure the fingers of colonization are going to grow in both directions. Pick a direction and go for it.

Ok so i got it up to about 70 % yesterday, just an outpost,

I found a source of steel so am currently dragging that back to the station but struggling for CMM and need 4633 of them! any ideas where to get them, Im in the Scorpii Sector zk-x b1-6 if that means anything to you guys.

I read you can get it from a trailblazer ship, any idea how to find them, or if there is one close to me to ferry it back and forth.

Cheers!!

Those are the first 3 entries from this query:

CMM composites are only available from surface ports. I think I may have seen some small quantities as mission rewards.

Note the Trailblazer ships are somewhat stealthed and don’t appear on maps and cannot be bookmarked. They do show up on the navigation panel and you can bookmark the body they orbit.
It is not recommended to visit them in an FC as pretty much all the slots are full.
