Am I Trading Right?

Hey All,

Just a quick question about trading. I read lots of others finding lucrative trade routes. I am just wondering if what i am doing could be considered profitable, or should i get out of my current system and look elsewhere?

So, i have a Cobra with 48t cargo space.

At the moment i have route which is about a 10-15 min round trip which brings in about 39k profit round trip.

Is this good, or should i go find another route?

Cheers

As a general guide, 1000 cr profit per ton is considered "good" in the current trade system. It looks like your round trip is bringing in about 500 cr per ton which is still reasonable. It depends how YOU feel about it though. Do you want to make loads of money quicker, and willing to explore a bit? You could look about for a better route. If you're happy with your current route and don't mind repeating it, you're still bringing in well over 100k an hour!

Cheers, I guess at the moment from what you are saying, its not a bad route and bringing in some good cash. Its pretty easy abeit being a the typical grind!! I think ill carry on for a while perhaps upgrade the ship a bit and then head off to find a higher profit route.

Happy trading!! (and xmas!)

Trading will often be a grind. But people that like trading dont see it that way. What about truckers in the real world hauling stuff for a paycheck. That would be seen as a typical grind as well right? :) The fun comes from finding better routes and good margins, and stumble upon rares etc. So if trading feels boring and "grindy" then i would do something else. Of course if you want a lot of cash as fast as possible i guess you have to do it until you get the cash you need.

honestly if you are MAKING money you are doing good. the route sounds alittle low but, meh

I would suggest looking for a system that has a multiple station & mixed economy ... the one I am in now has an Agricultural orbital, 3 Industrial/Refinery orbitals and 5 Industrial/Refinery outposts. One hop away is an Industrial/Extraction outpost. So I obtain superconductors there, hop, sell at I/R orbital for Marine Equipment, jump those to Agricultural orbital, sell and buy Animal Meat to hop to the I/E outpost. 20 minute round trip including dockings, nets me 220K Cr on a 96 ton load. After fuel costs (total 400 Cr for the round trip), that averages out at 2,290 Cr per ton. Plus of course any courier missions, there's usually one or two going. A few days of that is going to build my balance up enough to properly kit out my Asp :)

I'm happy with anything above 350c per ton of profit. But studying the markets will bring you even more...up to ~1000c per ton. Remember: average trade routes with great mission opportunities will probably be better and you get reputation as well. I'm allied with several Alliance factions and there are 300k credits missions resulting in a net profit of 200k or average ones where you get about 50k profit. So good trade route as well as an allied faction at "allied" reputation would be the best you can get.

My route is like 350 per ton to, and 950 from - and it's the highest I've been able to find that actually has good supply and demand. All other routes I've explored have been a waste of my time due to demand and supply being already messed up (I suspect by big traders) - with 100t cargo space it's about 120k profit per trip, and the stations are very close to the suns. I'm yet to find a better, consistent route (unfortunately, and not for lack of trying).
