AMA PS4/5 Fdev responses

Taken from this thread, i'll update any relevant answers from future AMA.
Cheers to boppa, earthtone99, gosxicolet for asking these.
EDIT: Second AMA answers from this thread, only two console-related questions.

Q: Can you confirm the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X ‘Quality’ mode issue will be fixed?

A: We have no news on the PS4 Pro and XBox One X quality mode issue bug. If you or your fellow commanders would like to upvote this bug on our issue tracker please do! https://issues.frontierstore.net/

Q: On PS4, the Azure paint you gave away doesn't stick to the boat. Do you plan to fix this problem?

A: We are looking into reports of issues with the Azure paint jobs and will update our community when we have more to share.
source

Q: Can you please share some info about any plans for an updated/enhanced version of Elite: Dangerous for the new generation of consoles, PS5 and XBox Series X?

A: We don't currently have plans for enhanced versions of Elite Dangerous but you can enjoy Elite Dangerous on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X via backwards compatibility.
source

Q: Elite on PC and XBox Series X currently support 4k in-game resolution, whereas the version of Elite running on PS5 does not. Do you plan to correct this?

A: There are no plans to update this on PS5 at the moment.

EDIT: AMA 2 Q-and-As:

Q
(shortened, see source for full question): Can I ask when the Issue Tracker will be addressed? There are many bugs within the tracker itself and also there is no way to get reliable feedback on what is going on. ... Unfortunately this doesn't create an environment where people feel as though they should raise bugs on the issue tracker, a lot of people do see it as a waste of time. This is a big problem now, but when we get to Odyssey it will become a huge problem. I really think we need some good strong feedback on the tracker itself and that changes need to be made by the time Odyssey is released in order to make it a success.

A: I agree this needs work - it is a big job but it is on my list, for full transparancy I plan at diving into this in the New Year as currently there are a lot of wheels in motion.

source

Q: Is the current lack of development of Cross play between platforms either.....
a. A Microsoft / Sony not playing nicely together issue
2. A "too hard to integrate into the existing code" issue
iii) An FDev don't want to do it issue
5. It might possibly, maybe happen at some indeterminate point in the future
vi. {REDACTED}

A: Option VI, sorry.

Lets think up more for next time chaps!

Yep the only thing they may be doing is fixing the Azure paint job issue, which probably falls into the larger "ensure we can sell ARX for cosmetics and make money" category.

I still like the game, but probably wont be playing much until Odessey has some announcement / releases. If it doesnt have a PS5 specfic version, well...

I just love the whole "Throw yourself into the grinder (issue tracker) and MAYBE we will hear your pain." attitude these answers from FDev give off. Personally I just want my "free" paintjobs to work, I'll worry about PS5 etc after the scalpers have crawled back to their holes.

I'm a new player and very liking the game so far. The only issues I encountered were the cosmetic bugs (Holome cosmetics not compatible and livery purchase paint not sticking). I did send a ticket for this, but still no progress.

AMA 2 completed, not many PS4/5/console related questions, but added to the first post.

Well this snippet seems to be latest news-which-is-no-news:

"Do you have any information on Odyssey on consoles?
There currently isn't any new information to share in terms of Odyssey on consoles. We hear you, as soon as we do have something worth sharing with you, we will. At the moment, work is focused on PC optimisation."

Reading that statement from @Zac Cocken , puts me in mind of similar statements to things like HUD colours on console, Crossplay, and the infamous Cobra MKIV. None of them ever panned out. Not saying there's a precedent, but it's not sounding good.

Unfortunately I don't have any news to give you on this at the minute, but we haven't forgotten about the Mk IV for PS4 players!

Currently this is done by editing files on the PC version, we're looking at options to bring this to console in the future though!

Though we’re excited, we've nothing to announce on how this could effect Elite Dangerous in the future.

As a Playstation player, these answers do not make me feel like a valued customer.
Perhaps they shouldn't have released the game on PS at all if they were going treat it like this.
Yeah I agree ... I have elite on both pc and playstation but had yo give up on PC because it broke now I'm left with what I have on ps4 and they just don't seem to care about it ....maybe it's time for PlayStation players to move into No man's sky ....they update and add stuff constantly ....After reading this thread I really can see frontier has lost all its care for people on playstation ....you are correct they should not have released it if they were going to just neglect it and not bother :(

If they kill off the console game then I will be asking for a refund of all cosmetics since they refused to transfer any of them despite being purchased from Frontier's own store. (They could easily copy and paste duplicate skins).

I originally played on PC then started over on Xbox and spent £100's on kits and skins, then asked if they would do an account transfer to PS4 and they said cosmetics wouldn't transfer over, so I re-invested in all of them and more. I've funded Frontier an obscene amount in support of the game, so I really don't feel too happy with Odyssey being released in a deliberately shoddy state to the detriment of it's future on console altogether. If I must go back to PC in the end as my primary platform then I will want them to allow for me to unlock my stuff again or refund me so I can re-purchase them.

Here's hoping they put in the effort and actually support the next gen and that the licenses carry forward. I'll crack if they expect yet more money to unlock my personalisations again.

Cross Save / Play or some level of Cross Platform function would simplify all of this. Not sure why they aren't interested in it. Suspect they've backed themselves into a corner technically - but I had hoped with Odyssey that they'd have built the new back-end server environment from the ground up with things like shared BGS, galaxy and cross platform in mind.

They said to me that licensing prevents them from transferring cosmetics etc. But this is nonsense because you pay for Arx then redeem them against their own store. Even saves are held server side, so they could definitely open this up and allow compatible content transfer - minus system exclusive skins/kits etc.

In the early days of Arx, I made the mistake of purchasing Arx for my PlayStation account using the Frontier website. They had to refund me, even though I was logged in with the correct account at the time of purchase. This is one of the reasons I suspect they'd built themselves into a bit of a corner when it comes to the back-end infrastructure and Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms.

There seems to be different server infrastructure handling the BGS and session state management, among other things, per platform. At least that's been my assumption.

Now with Odyssey I believe this has been rebuilt - allowing for things like more missions on the mission board - but I assume they now have the headache of replicating states across the Horizons and Odyssey back-ends, in addition to the replication between the backends for each platform. Also assume this is giving a lot of unnecessary overhead and baby-sitting from the Dav Hamster Squad, and this is one of the reasons that both Horizons and Odyssey clients will eventually merge...

My hope is, in building out the Odyssey back-end, they've removed the technical debt from the solution that had previously prevented them from having funky things like unified Squadrons, and ultimately allow real-time cross platform interactions and cross play.

I realise that this is probably a lofty expectation but I trust @Dav Stott to be forward thinking enough to have thought about it (and hopefully, attempted it!) ...
