Iridium flare. If you're talking about the actual blue star, my guess would be Rigel.
EDIT : It's not Rigel (thought M42 was underexposed and that threw me off), but I won't say which one it is cause the rule was clear about not cheating whatsoever![]()
You can only tell if you open a planetary software like Stellarium. You'll notice in the picture that the blue star is almost parallel to the Orion nebula. Rigel's position though is more upwards and to the right. In fact, you can see some of Rigel's glow (at first I thought it was just glare from a light source) on the top right corner.
I'm 99% sure that the blue star is in fact U Orionis, a variable star that at it's brightest, it has an apparent magnitude of 4.8.
You can see why I confused Tau Orionis, Rigel, Lambda Eridani and HIP 23916 for HIP 25869, Upsilon Orionis, HIP 25786 and HIP 25712. The glow is also the Witch Head Nebula. Me need a cup of coffee
