Astronomy / Space Amazing Photo of Orion

This photo really struck me. Explorers, want to see what Orion really looks like?

Also without cheating, any guesses what that big blue star is? :D

Iridium flare. If you're talking about the actual blue star, my guess would be Rigel.

EDIT : It's not Rigel (thought M42 was underexposed and that threw me off), but I won't say which one it is cause the rule was clear about not cheating whatsoever :p

Are you sure?

You can only tell if you open a planetary software like Stellarium. You'll notice in the picture that the blue star is almost parallel to the Orion nebula. Rigel's position though is more upwards and to the right. In fact, you can see some of Rigel's glow (at first I thought it was just glare from a light source) on the top right corner.

I'm 99% sure that the blue star is in fact U Orionis, a variable star that at it's brightest, it has an apparent magnitude of 4.8.

You are assuming that the picture is taken exactly galactic north/south
