Call it a blind hunch, but I'm sensing there wouldn't even be a cloud of dust left for the Bacon Cats to shoot at.
Know how these forums don't allow 'naming and shaming' of commanders? Well, that rule does not exist on the fuel rats' website. You ambush them, they will blacklist you on their site. And from then on you'll be a target for every pilot out there who has ever needed, or anticipates to ever need their services (i.e. everybody). EDIT: Kerenn says no. They're peace loving folk who don't go in for that sort of thing. But we'll still know when you've been a naughty boy so the below still applies. And Scudmungus says he won't serve you any more drinks --and him got some bold drinks, mon!

Easy way round. Fuel Rats get you to join a private group with them. If you refuse you get no fuel. If you accept then try to ambush them they take you apart with the rest of their wing. Take out your drives and leave you to die a lonely cold death.
I can't speak for the other rats (we're an anarchic collective) but personally, should you ever drop by the rat cave, I (as my alter-ego the holographic bartender) would do a small but noxious pee into your beer.

I wouldn't hate you. I would, in fact, be really impressed if you managed to extort money from more than a hundred CMDRs that make a loss everytime they rescue someone. You'd be, like, the ultimate underpants gnome, man!
A pretty crappy work around. The Fuel Rats should not fear Open, nor do I think most do. Many of them aren't novices and the more common tanker vessels are usually easy to make durable enough to survive and high wake out of a dangerous encounter.
I don't imagine many fuel rats taking shieldless Type-7s into unknown encounters.
Lol you are first of all going to have to pay a monthly 'protection' fee to the Master of the Instancing Mechanic to ensure that you can actually find said Fuel Rats in order to kill them.
