Horizons AMD Radeon Crimson Software Question?.

My PC graphic card is the AMD Radeon HD 5750 and a long time ago I came across a thread on setting it up for optimal settings in general and I followed the instructions and it was fine. I have played first ED and now ED Horizons since day one and other than the problem with terrain that many Radeon users had at that time and which has been fixed I haven't had any problems at all. I was checking out the AMD support site for updates and read that the support for my card was ending due to the Crimson Edition but they would supply a link to a final beta Crimson update for my card. I checked it all out downloaded and installed it over a week ago and it has been fine. However I am an inveterate tinkerer and would like to optimize this update too but the GUI and settings for the Crimson software is entirely different to the old Catalyst Control version. Does anyone here have the Crimson software installed on their AMD graphics and care to share their settings?.

Hello , I had a pair of HD 5770 cards in crossfire and I tried out the beta of the Crimson update , however I found that anything other than the normal settings caused excessive heat build up . I also found that I could not get better than 24 FPS on planets , in the SRV , even with over clocking both cards to max settings . If I cut all the in game settings to low then I could get about 30 FPS on planets surface and 60 FPS in the rest of the game , but the game looked , well , cruddy.

In the end I ditched both cards and replaced them with an AMD R9 380x , a HSI X2 model , and installed the 15.12 Crimson driver , now I get 60 FPS in game regardless of what I am flying or doing and 60+ FPS on planets surface , that is with basic driver settings and no card over clocking and with in game settings to max on everything , the GPU hits 36 degrees centigrade so I have been able to turn my case fans down.

I have tried out the latest version of the Crimson drivers but I got the occasional black screen as I was playing , not helpful in a dogfight , so I rolled back to the 15.12. I may give the latest drivers another go , if I come across some useful feedback about the subject.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. The drivers I installed and according to the AMD support site are the final ones for the HD5*** series are software version 16.2.1 As I understand it Crimson drivers after that will not work on your card?.

Sorry , I miss typed , the labelling of the drivers is a bit weird . I have the 16.15.12 drivers released on 12/17/2015 , the Crimson Edition 16.2.1 Beta is the last update for the HD 5*** series card and was released on 3/1/2016.

I have an HD 5650 in my laptop and the AMD HD5*** series drivers resulted in a BSOD. I then installed the Omega drivers from this page. Their newer ones didn't work either, but might for you.

Once installed, run the intel updater to update the integrated graphics driver, if you have one. No issues on my end - happy and can't safe some bucks for a decent gaming rig.
