General / Off-Topic AMD Ryzen chipset

I have been watching AMD's new Ryzen release closely recently and how the performance of the chip surpasses intel's. Now it appears pricing has leaked out and it looks like a bargain

The top of the line chip (1800x) that has beat intel's 6900k chip in benchmarks is only $500 USD.. AND does not require a specific motherboard, That is just incredible IMO. That is half the price that intel wants for their 6900.

If anyone is looking to upgrade their PC for better Planet Coaster performance I think this should be at the top of the list to buy. I am curious as to how PC would run with this chip, it is highly likely I will be buying this very soon after I read more reviews when it gets released.

Curious as to what everyone else's thoughts are about Ryzen

I'll believe it all when I see it!

I'm not looking to upgrade personally (i7 5820k) but I do hope it turns out to be a success for them! More competition in the CPU market can only be a good thing for us as consumers in the long run.

Agreed, Intel really has not done anything big since Sandy Bridge so hopefully this sparks some movement in the CPU market

Ryzen's hopefully long awaited step away from mediocrity for AMD. For a long time now they've only been able to claim to be best in terms of price/performance ratio, its been a while since they could claim to compete with intel head to head in terms of gaming performance. Time will tell.

The thing i see is that ryzen have a good heat transfer. They use idium and not coolpaste we use on top of the cpu.
Whiy i7 cpu we can get up to 20degrees lower when we delid it and change the coolpaste between cpu and ihs.

I definaly want to know what the 8core wil do whit the fps

Did you benchmark test it with your old rig to see how much it improved?

If you don't have a benchmark these results won't say not that much.

What are your other specs? Did you only change the CPU or is the machine completely new?

I've seen tests where the CPU is not outperforming the i7. Not sure how CPU demanding Dragon Age: inquisition is.
It is a close match but I wonder how much difference it makes on a CPU demanding game like Planet Coaster.

It's from a dutch website called Tweakers. You can see the full review here:

Their conclusion is: AMD is close, but not back yet. Let's indeed at least hope it sparks the market.

"close, not back yet" several fixable bugs and issues holding back performance at the time and games not being optimized for it yet. I'm sure we'll see it match if not beat the majority if not all of X99 platform with those problems fixed :) (X99 didn't launch without problems either, and some are still existing)

Which Ryzen chipsets is good for both gaming and for your wallet?

The six core Ryzen 5 1600 is supposedly where it's at for both good value and decent gaming performance. I have no idea how it performs in Planet Coaster though as I've not seen many benchmarks for this game around.

Edit: Just noticed you said chipset, doh! B350 is capable of overclocking, I think the x370 is more the option if you're planning on running multi GPU setups.
