General / Off-Topic American Sniper

I avoided this movie because I really hate silly patriotic homages to even sillier wars, however it would seem this movie isn't that. It's just basically a few action war set-pieces, along with some sort of attempt to humanize the central character by showing some scenes of him at home with his wife, being uncommunicative and distant.

Contrary to what the press have said on both sides of the political debate the movie doesn't really politicize things one way or the other. What it does do, however, is bore the pants off you. Furthermore, this multimillion blockbuster by an academy award winning director has this...

A fake baby. A plastic doll.

At one point (0.41) look at the babys arm "moving", and look at Bradley Coopers thumb underneath it.

It's probably a small thing, but good movies live or die by these sorts of details. Stanley Kubrick must be rotating in his grave right now (undoubtedly to the theme "Blue Danube").

Has anyone sat through this movie yet?

It isn't my sort of film or story really. I recall the reviews and thought the idea rather sick.

Found this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/film/american-sniper/bradley-cooper-plastic-babies-mystery/

Though a rather better explaination might be that reasonable mothers might not be too happy to have their children associated with a story about how one man is brainwashed into taking any sort of pride in murdering fellow humans.

It's a sad reflection upon the current state of American society that it seems content to be associated with this sort of murder.

Or perhaps that's just a sad reflection on the sate of humanity.
