Ammo clip size

Total noob question:

What do "Ammo clip size 30" and "Ammo maximum 2,100" mean?

Edit: I do know what an ammo clip is, BTW. What I don't get is how I can have maximum ammo but apparently not be able to use it after I've emptied the clip, or to reload my ammo clip from the 2,100 maximum that I seem to have. Or am I missing something?

"Ammo clip size" is how many rounds you can fire before having to reload while "ammo maximum ____" is how much total ammunition you're carrying for that weapon besides what you currently have loaded.

Ammo supplied to a gun in clips from a crate. One clip 30 shells then reload needed.

BTW clips for multi-cannon is a bit odd.

That's more or less what I thought - but how do you reload a clip? Can you do it on the fly or do you have to be docked? If on the fly, then how exactly?

Right now the only way to reload is to shoot off the remaining ammunition in your current magazine or by resupplying at a station or outpost. I'm assuming we'll be able to manually reload once Frontier adds that functionality in but for now it isn't much of an issue.
