Ammonia Water World

Here's a new one for me. An Ammonia Water World. I came across it 1 KLY from Sag A.

I've snagged *many* Water Worlds with Ammonia atmospheres. A lot of them are even "Terra-formable".

Best way to find these, in my limited experience, is to filter your route to visit F class stars only.

All it means is that the hydrosphere is mostly water, the atmosphere is mostly ammonia. Which, at that temperature and pressure, makes sense. Of course, there'll be plenty of ammonia dissolved in that water under those conditions; calling it "water" does not mean the water is anywhere near pure, or drinkable. Earth seawater is technically water, even though it's 3.5% stuff-other-than-water. An "ammonia world", on the other hand, has a hydrosphere mostly made of ammonia; ammonia worlds are usually cold enough that water freezes solid, effectively becoming just another kind of rock.

Any "water world" you discover that's strongly brown in colour like this, rather than the more normal blue or purple, will be just such an ammoniacal water world.

This world is, however, almost not a "water world". At 13 atmospheres pressure, water boils at about 200 deg C, or 473 K. If it got much hotter, all that water would end up in the atmosphere and you'd end up with a superhot HMC with a mostly-water atmosphere.

And this is why I love this game.
