The giant salamander should be a habitat animal IMO

Eh, to me it's like the iguana or snapping turtle. It could be either.

Personally I'd rather it was an exhibit animal. As ambush hunters they aren't particularly mobile, and as amphibians they require more specialist care than any of the reptiles. Like the snapping turtle, they'd spend the majority of their time sitting in one place in a habitat, not doing much of anything, perhaps moving occasionally to a different spot to sit and wait for prey to come by. The difference is that at least the snapping turtle has the draw of being a potential mixed species animal.

Opinions will always vary. If they ever went with my idea of creating "hybrid environment" species (animals that can be both exhibit or habitat depending on which market you buy them from) the giant salamander could be a good contender.

we need something like this because there are just too much cool frogs. Also we need more indoor exhibits.
