Newcomer / Intro An Absolutely Amazing Experience - The reason I play...

I really wanted to share this someone, anyone. I am a newbie still with about 20 hours played. I currently own a Viper with an average of class c internal modules and decent weapons. My main source of money is hitting up nav points and using a Kill Warrant Scanner in anarchy systems to find some awesome bounties.

So, I'm doin my thing in an anarchy system at a Nav Point shooting any NPC that has a bounty and raking in the money. A giant python shows up, listed as 'dangerous' and a quick subsystem check shows he is very fit for combat. Well, I shoot at him to get the fight going and 2 other bounty hunters join in to help me take him out. With the way things go, he was primarily shooting at me (and it hurt!) so it was hit and run tactics the entire time. Being that the bounty hunters were a viper and a Cobra, it took us quite a while to finally drop him. I cant remember what his total bounty was, but after killing him, I had about a total of 120k worth of bounties to turn in. Might not sound like a lot compared to some of you, but to me I was seeing $$$$ in my eyes lol.

So, I decide to Super Cruise back to the station and turn in. I see a Unidentified Signal Source so I decide to drop in. What do ya know, there are 2 'Dangerous' Anaconda's just sitting there. I KWS'd both, one turned out to be a bounty hunter with no wanted status, the other was a pirate with ~60k bounty on his head. By this time, the bounty hunter had opened fire on this guy so I joined in. After a grueling and amazing 10 minute fight (really...10 mins!) we finally drop that Anaconda. The last 5% of his health I made sure to have full weapons charge so I could unload on him and get the bounty.

Now, I am sitting around 36% hull strength left with almost 200k in bounties. I engage that supercruise and start making my way to the station. Dummy me, I forgot I picked up some cargo that was dropped by one of the bounties. So, omw to the station I get interdicted by a Pirate - I submitted to try and reduce damage taken (idk if it works like that) and I see its only a mostly harmless viper (i think. He had shields but wasnt listed as dangerous)

Me being greedy, I KWS him and decided I wanted his measly 8k bounty as well. So I start attacking him - What normally would have been a pretty easy fight for me was absolutely not. He rips through my shields like wet tissue paper. I CANNOT get my orientation right. I'm putting pips in Sys, into engines to out-turn, back into weapons to recharge, back to engines to turn again...NOTHING was working. He just keeps firing away - My hearts pounding. I'm getting a sinking feeling in my gut. I do NOT want to lose all this cash. I make a split decision. Flip off the flight assist and boost away as fast as I can to get out of weapon range. Im charging the FSD, Dodging, swerving, turning, dropping, bobbing, weaving, doing everything I can to throw off his aim. My Indicators are red, I keep seeing messages pop up. My ships heat is well over 100% I have modules going offline. I hear multiple alarms going off. His beam weapons are just eating through my hull like a hungry hungry hippo.

Finally! FSD is charged........."Must Orient yourself with your target" GAAHHH WHAT!?!?!?!? - Flip the flight assist back on to turn around - Bang - Cockpit breached...Hull, 3%!!!! I am desperate. Trying to manage everything, trying to orient my ship to that station. I'm seeing the red beams of death barely missing my ship. Panic. Then.

"3....2....1....SWOOSH!" and I am away! At this point my heart is pounding in my ears so hard, I cant hear a thing. I start to release the breath I was holding. Then I see it. "3 Minutes of Life Support Remaining"......oh crap. - Luckily I was pretty close to the station. I warp in, and the site in front of me was like a kick in the teeth - Oh, it was station. But not any station. Noooo. It was one of the Coriolis Tetrahedron (or whatever it is) Starports, that has like 20 sides with one entrance that is impossible to find. I have no idea where the entrance is and I am running out of time

2 minutes of Life Support left.

Full pips to engines. Full Throttle. I'm boosting like crazy while holding down the lateral thrusters looking at all the segments to find that stupid entrance - My face is burning, My heart is racing - I'm just watching those seconds of air left just tick, tick, tick, tick away.

1 Minute remaining.

I am absolutely frantic now - searching...searching...searching...30 Seconds left...FOUND IT!!!! - Now, im pretty okay at flying but I am not the best at precision maneuvering. Still getting used to my x52.
Let. Me. Tell. You. I have never flown that good in my life. I had to come from the underneath the station, loop around, twist, turn, using all my lateral thrusters, and slide right past a type 7 idiot npc blocking the slip.

15 seconds left.

I jam the throttle to full and slip in. My eyes are scanning every square inch of that starport, looking for that wonderful haven of a landing pad. Found it. The pad was just below me - Activate landing gear. Then I flew down, smacked one of those buildings, almost got fined for blocking another pad, and slid perfectly into my spot.

When that starport menu came up, I threw my hands in the air and screamed OMFG I MADE IT!!!! I almost started crying I was so happy. Turned in my bounties for just under 200k in my pocket and then got to sell the stolen cargo for more profit.

This. This is why I play this game. This is why I spent the money. I couldn't stop shaking for 10 minutes after all of it. What was a normal bounty hunting run, turned into an experience I will always remember. Thank you FD.:D

*I now know that all you need to do is make it through the slip into the starport to get life support air. But I didnt know this at the time.*

Great tale.

Tips with the coriolus stations -

If you approach from planetside the slot is more than likely going to be facing you when you drop out of SC.

If you target the station you will see arrows on the faces pointing to the side where the slot is.

Amazing. Got my heart racing as I've been through a couple of similar things myself, that post brought them back to life just reading it.
Additional tip: red flashing beacons on rear face, white on front face! ;-)

Bonus docking tip - the side with the docking port always rotates anti-clockwise. Just watch the station spin for a moment, work out which end is spinning anti-clockwise, and you're golden.

Yeah, I’ve started noticing that when I come from a specific direction, the entrance is “easier” to find. Oh nice! Those arrows have kind of confused me a little bit. I knew that somehow they had a system to point to the entrance but hadn’t taken the time to figure it out before all this took place lol. So thanks for that.

Haha I know right. It had my blood racing just typing it up. As crazy and scary as these situations are, they really are what make this game. Whether trading, pirating, exploring, or bounty hunting, it’s great to know that im not the only one who has experienced them. And awesome tip on the light colors/meanings – It would have taken a while to figure out which was front and which was back lol.

Cool story! Repped it :)

And is facing kinda in the direction of the planet. That helps al lot as well.

Just wondering, how does your scanner tell you, you are dealing with a bounty hunter?

Great story.

Almost a carbon copy of a couple of sessions I had a few weeks ago - only difference being that I ran out of life support by 1 second both times!!

I only lost maybe 50k in bounties and exploration so didn't phase me too much. Was only in an Adder at the time too so little insurance to pay out.

So *THAT'S* what those arrows are for! THANK YOU!

Awesome story! Welcome to ED, CMDR!!....this is what we all love about this game....

And yet...we have so much room to grow....just wait and see... :)

Thank you all for the rep and the posts. It really is great to see others helping out so much

Aw that sucks...In my mind thats all I could see when I was looking for that slip. That I made it through a combat gauntlet only to suffocate before I could make a payday. Ahh, the good days when I could buy my sidewinder back for like 1k credits lol

Well, I mainly look for a Kill Warrant Scanner in their subsystems - Especially when Im in an anarchy system - they might have an interdictor as well and will usually be spec'd for combat - But, at first glance, the easiest way is to pay attention to their names. Pirates will have Piratey names and bounty hunters will have more of a Mercenary tough guy name. Traders will have a 'John Smith' name.

Yeah, I like the smugglers "I snuck across 8 Systems without getting caught! I wont let you take me down" or something to that effect lol

Yup, this is why I like E: D. Sometimes things happen that makes you learn stuff about yourself.

On a similar note, once my T9 was interdicted by a Cmdr in a Python and I had the audacity to open fire - and oh boy was it a mistake. My cockpit cracked in like 5 seconds and by the time I reached the starport I had like 1:40 of oxygen left. Imagine the tension when trying to dock a T9 in that situation.

Great read, thanks for sharing!

Moments like these are game-defining. My return from (what I considered to be) "deep space" with over 100k of basic discovery scanner exploration data- with literally 2% hull- had me doing fist pumps in front of the PC as well. I hadn't actually traveled all that far, but it felt like an epic journey!

Now, mining? Not sure how many miners have felt this way. But there is no Elite Status for mining, after all.

 - Nope, couldnt imagine it. I was in a Viper! One of the more maneuverable ships lol - When I was zipping around that station trying to find the entrance...I was moving very fast. Plus I could more or less sc through the letterbox sideways if I had to. I actually almost did because that NPC was in the way lol. Good on you for making it home in a T-9 on life support. That would suck to have to do, but be even more awesome for pulling it off.

Hahaha thats exactly it - And it doesnt even matter what the total profit is - its how you value that profit. To me, it felt like a million bucks - I imagine you felt the same. Spending all that time exploring and being careful not to scoop too close or hit some random object in space. Knowing all you have to do is sneeze too hard and you'll rip open the rest of your hull can make any trip...special, but worth it haha.

With mining, you never know. What if your mining and some pirate comes along to pick you off. Maybe not much combat involved on your part, but I can see an epic escape "into the asteroid field" making a "Greatest Hits" moment ;)
