An apology and a wake-up call. The paintjobs

Okay, let's not stray from this debate to things we KNOW aren't going to happen, and let's focus on giving Frontier feedback on what we can influence. Applying custom skins to ships? Of course! Who wouldn't like the idea? Me first. But that's not going to happen even in our wildest dreams.

Custom paintjobs (and other accesories) really should be a thing. If the problem is money, then take a hint from Warframe where people can submit their designs to DE and have them added alongside the in-game offerings. Sure, the "tennogen" stuff is sold for real-world money only (no in-game equivalent) for possibly legal reasons, or because the artists get paid from sales, but you know the game devs take their cut. Something similar could be done here too, its just a question of will.

Because if that will doesn't exist (nor will it ever exist) for technical or purely economic reasons, it's pointless to propose things that will remain siren songs. I'd rather spend my tears asking for things that are actually possible.😉

the reducing frontier sales i fully get, and logically the rest of your point makes sense..........

however it hasnt stopped some, very detailed, very intricate and often very IP infringing cars making it into Forza games and that has been the case for probably a decade or more now.
Yes, but which company wants to fight out a copyright issue with Microsoft? FDev might be an easier target ;)

Nevertheless, I am fully on OP's side: We need better paint jobs which enhance the ship details, are tasteful, based on lore or just way cool in some other way. And this isn't impossible for FDev to create them or even better - give us a channel to submit creations which can make it into the game. And decals which respect the ship's hull and aren't awkwardly slapped across hull parts.

Semi-customizable paint jobs would be really nice. Where a player can select primary and secondary colors.

Combined with decals and name plates with selectable colors.

Sigh, ... a man can dream.

I'd pay ARX to apply my own design (just throwing my pennyworth in)
As things stand, I'll probably keep buying ships on early access but I'll otherwise save the ARX for the SALE (BUY NOW WHILE STOCKS LAST)
Not impressed with the pjs at the mo, and I suppose I've got to the point now that I've purchased everything I ever will for most ships.
That said, IF I could apply my own custom pj, then yeah, I'd pay ARX to do it.

But I insist again, at the risk of being tiresome so as not to be misunderstood, that the greatness of ED is that everyone can be whatever they want and whatever they desire, and their vision of the game is as valid as mine. If someone's role-playing game is to traverse the galaxy as if they were The Great Gatsby, that's perfectly fine by me. I don't want to change it, but rather add to those options those of people with more sober tastes.

IF the will doesn't exist - well, does it? How do you know it doesn't? The new drive to update ED might include such a thing. So why would you defeatalist assume it isn't there?
If you don't ask, you won't get. Asking is fine. The trick is not to keep asking and demanding and whining.

I'm not really that concerned about any specific paint job, what annoys me is that sometimes the paint job changes color or pattern over the location of where your vessel name is located.

If one has their name printed in white, and suddenly part of your vessel name is over an area that is white or light colored where it used to be black a few feet to the side, well you get what I'm talking about.
