An argument for animal gates

On top of gates and doors for staff members and for guests. I think there should be gates for animals that can be open and shut

The reason for this is that in real zoos, gates are used to shift animals around to different exhibits. This could work in Planet Zoo to keep solitary animals separate but you can easily unite them for mating

I also propose different gates for different sized animals such as

Big bois (Elephants, hippos, rhinos, wild cattle)
Giraffes
Big cats, bears, and great apes
Monkeys
Large lizards (Komodo) and crocodilians
Zebras and antelope (from gazelles to eland)
etc.

We don't need to separate animals to prevent unwanted mating. We've seen that there's a contraceptive toggle on the animal info UI panel that pops up when you click on one of your animals, and we can easily move animals around the zoo using the already implemented technique, so while it's a cool idea, I don't think it's necessary.

As a realism player, I not only love this idea, I simply need things like that. I know we have contraception in the game, but in real life, you try toavoid giving them hormon pills. It's not good for their health nor their fertility if you want to breed them at a later point. I know contraception is common in keeping hippos. Lions for example are more often seperated as contraception have unhealthy side affects. Plus, normally only the females can have hormonell contraceptions.

A seperate-gate could also help with keeping some lines of animals apart or to isolate s pregnant female or whatever. Just because there are other solutions (as for example building or deleting a wall) does not make a more realistic solution uneccessary. Play styles are very different and diverse.

The game even treats the contraceptives as something bad, as the refer to it in orange text on the animal page. It makes me wonder if it harms the animals if you don't turn the switch off, making it to where you will eventually have to separate some of the animals to avoid things like: Elephant01 got pregnant from elephant03. When elephant one was elephant 3's mother.

I really hope that's not the case. Maybe the text is orange so that it's more obvious that the toggle is on, rather than that it's signifying that it's a bad thing. I like realism in my games, especially games like this, but I think forcing players to build multiple areas to house animals soley for the purpose of not breeding them is a little over the top.

Really, the game treats contraception as negative? Didn't catch that detail yet, thanks for bringing it up!
They did confirm that inbreeding will have a bad influence on the offspring, leading to health and fertility issues. Thats why the trading system is rather awesome.

You can always trade animals, release them into the wild or sell them. We didn't have contraception in past zoo games, so this is how it was handled.

well thats the thing, its unknown as of now, but I noticed during the streams that its noted in orange, which was the same color for animals that were getting hungry, or animals at half enrichment.

Yeah! :) I want to see something like this. There was such a thing in Jurassic world evolution. I think should be in this planet zoo.

I don't think this has anything to do with unwanted mating. He wants to divide his animals as he likes. There is no problem in this. in terms of realism you may need something like this.

I questioned this when the game was first announced. Now that i found out they're not like JWE I'm slightly disappointed.

To the people who don't understand why it would be necessary, in game play its not, but in aesthetic and being able to choose what animals are separated when adds a new level of realism to the game that JWE nailed.

That would be great. In solitary animals this works very well, in real-life zoos. In my country, the pygmy hippopotamus have achieved more than three offspring, and they have achieved it thanks to this, since they are separated throughout the year, and on the date of mating they unite them. Even when the female is with a baby, the father is already apart in his lonely space.

Sorry for jumping into this late - but I really like the idea behind this. I'm planning to build something similar to the picture in the OP for my snow leopard habitats, since the only time they come together in the wild is to mate. My only question is (not to deviate off this thread), how will we know when to put them together to breed? I haven't seen any indication of a breeding season or signs of females coming into heat so will it be a guessing game?
