An EDSM Visualisation

So I made a visualisation of all the EDSM data from when it originally started collecting (12th May 2015) until ~2 weeks ago.

It's quite obvious when FD added co-ordinates to NetLog and defaulted it on, and even more obvious when the journal was added - it starts to look like a kid with crayons got hold of it ;).
1 second is just about 1 week. Some amusing graffiti hidden in there too.
It's quite disappointing that the date in the data is when it was uploaded rather than the first visit, or even the date of the first uploaded visit - it means bulk uploaders whole journeys appear all at once and are gone in a second - but it still looks cool (to me).

Youtube has mangled the quality slightly, so if anyone wants the original you can download it here (dropbox)

Whats with the spiralled square and perfect star shape 1 min in ? :S

Looks cool though :)

Edit and the flying saucer ! :D

You can actually see distant worlds happening, that's really cool!

Yeh - I like how it's 1 big line up there, and a bunch of smaller lines in almost every direction when they return.

That's people drawing stuff for their own EDSM maps I think. There's 2 people who write (something, not worked out what yet), and there's a drawing of a Coriolis station in there too.

Very cool, great work! I'm always amazed to the those treks from above

Original looks better, agreed. Any chance to increase the resolution some more? Maybe to 1080?

One thing I've still got planned is compiling a list of GalMap-grafitti over the years, including some info on them. Personally, I've added the Coriolis (SW-Quadrant, at around 0:48) and the DWE-Logo (just West of the core, at around 0:51), among a few others :D

Ah, yes, and then there's a similar visualization done by EDSM's own Anthor:

Sure thing

Thanks for that, interesting to watch.

Remarkable stuff. Thanks for making it!

I don't suppose you could add timestamps though? It would be interesting to see. I think that the series of dots going from the South end to the North at ~0:42 were me, as I started trilaterating stuff after I made it down there.

Also, looking at this, I'm even more glad that Jaques Station didn't jump to Beagle Point as it was originally planned to. I'd wager the map would have looked considerably more boring then.

Great stuff, I love seeing these different ways of visualising how we've been exploring the galaxy. One little request though: please don't cut off the extreme east & west of the galaxy as I dislike seeing my tracks disappear like that ;)

I added datestamps to the higher res version on dropbox here

Excellent stuff. My artwork might be a little small compared to some of the others: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/297287-Galactic-Graffiti

...but I did just about manage to make it out at about 1:13 :)
