An encounter with a ship intent on killing me

Last night I was out in my T7 flying my new trade route because my previous one had become illegal due to the power changes.

As I started the run I picked up the cargo and jumped to the target system.

Slowly I turned my lumbering beast of a T7 away from the danger of the star when my ships sensors pick up a new contact.

As I turned to head to the target station I was keeping an eye on my radar when my left eye spotted something appear on the comms channel, it said:

“Looks like the rumour mill was true, this is my lucky day” - or something to that effect.

That's when they tried and failed to interdict me.

After that I realigned to my target and was on my way keeping a good eye on the radar – there where lots of contacts.

I exited supercruise about 10km away from the station.

As I start to speed up, after locating the stations entrance, a ship comes out of supercruise about a few meters away.

I think to myself that was cool especially with the visual effect and sound. Since playing the game even in beta this was the first time my ship was pointing in the right direction to see another ship exit supercruise.

But this new experience did not last long as I realised it was the ship who tried to interdict me.

The other ship was really close, my T7 slow to accelerate, trying to start my evading pattern with flight assist off.

Over the comms comes the message 'I'm here to stop you' and the ship opens fire on me.

Even with flight assist off they are landing hits until I realise I should be evading plus heading to the safety of the station.

I try to coax my T7 towards the station, my shields being battered.

I was down to my last ring when the system authority ships came to my rescue – all 9 of them.

The attacker stood no chance and was promptly dispatched.

Meanwhile I proceeded to the stations entrance.

As I passed into the station another set of comms messages appeared. This time from the system authority ships:

“This area has been cordoned off as part of a crime scene”

“All ships in the area must stop and submit to a scan”

By that time I was nearly at my pad so I landed.

This is the first time since playing (I was a beta backer) that I've had and see so much NPC interaction and it pretty much made my night.

Sounds very similar to problem I had when running mission to a system. It looked like local police tipped off, as they would not leave me alone.

Sadly forced to destroy ships that continued to interdict me all the way to local station.

I've had a similar encounter with a dangerous NPC anaconda. It followed me to the outpost I was flying to, and opened fire on me again (had interdicted me before). Unfortunately it didn't follow me to the no fire zone, instead it turned around and jumped away.

What I found strange/annoying about this: After I escaped from the first interdiction I watched the scanner very carefully, and I am almost 100% certain that the anaconda was not on the scanner for at least 30s before I left SC near the outpost. It just magically appeared there right next to me. Not realistic at all.

I really enjoyed the NPC interaction it took my game on that night to another level. I hope that they introduce more NPC interaction like this.

Are you sure you didn't have any deliver cargo missions? I get this sometimes with those.

I had an NPC follow me around a system for ages. He interdicted me and scanned me, said crime detected (I had illicit cargo but didn't get a fine?) and started shooting. I boosted away and went on to the outpost.
He followed my there and started attacking again. Although as he was system authority he was able to follow me into the no fire zone. I landed and under fire and finished my delivery mission.
When I cam back out he was still there waiting? He then followed my into a USS where i found a target of an assassination mission. Then after I killed the assassination target and supercruised out he followed me again and tried to interdict me. This time I evaded the interdiction and that was the last I saw of him. Was quite interesting.

I had one of those recently myself...I was wondering why the hell a crazy Fed security ship was nearly chasing me INTO a station while firing at me, hitting the station as well as taking my shields down...and he even kept stating "beginning attack run" and "prepare to die pilot" the whole time I was docked LOL

Nope - it was just cargo. I rarely take missions.

To break up the trading I do a bit of bounty hunting on the side. Well I say bit. Last time I did quite a lot. So much that my status with certain groups was plunging so I decided to stop and go back to trading before I got to the point that there where people who hated me :) I wonder if that was of any influence on the attack?

well yes. i'm fairly sure i read that. when you hit one faction for too much, they start sending assassins to get you, throughout the galaxy. can even be the big ships, if you've done too much damage to the faction. but i doubt we'll see an official statement bout this one.

I wonder is this still true if I am not pledged to any faction (power play wise)?

Why not?

Just because he is not in your scanner range does not mean he is not there. Your scanner range is very limited. He locked onto your low wake and dropped out of supercruise next to you - nothing unrealistic about it.

It's why I don't trade in a t7 anymore and do it in an asp, but I'll soon be in a python nE5fnht.png

Nice escape there Cmdr. I've been followed by guys like that when trading in my T7 and try to be ready to jump to another system by setting a new route as soon as I arrive at my target system.
Fly Safe.

I had to admire his persistence. I didn't shoot back because it was a system I didn't want to be wanted in. Although I came close. He followed me to an outpost so couldn't come inside, but i did wonder what would have happened if it was a large station. From your story it looks like they do follow you in. Brilliant. Did the station shoot him?

Yeah, the 'NPCs do not cheat' mantra does appear to have gone out the window with the 1.3 AI update (which I otherwise fully enjoy). They'll follow you through whatever instance you go to including through hyperspace if an interdiction begins just before a jump causing you to crash into the star at the far end.

Is repeatable and not possible for a human player to achieve.

This afternoon when I was doing a trade run, right after I jumped to the star and turned toward the station, an NPC said something like "That's really big haulage there". I was wondering how he can know that I'm not carrying full of SCBs in my Clipper without a cargo scan. When I cruised closer to the station I found an USS. Thought it never hurts to add some bounty money to trade profit so I slowed down, and an NPC flew past me really fast, and did it again from the other direction. I realized maybe he wanted to interdict me from behind but kept overshooting me:p The USS was empty when I dropped into it, but soon a Viper appeared and opened fire on me. It was the same one at the star and I guess he was also the one who failed to interdict me and then just followed my low wake. It's interesting that NPCs become more dogged to chase players, but a single Viper really couldn't do much.

This! In my type-9 I got Interdicted during a jump. I thought to myself "He wont get me before I jump" bad idea. He pulled me out of supper cruse right next to the sun at the next system. So there I am trying to escape him into supper cruse all the while my computer saying "Taking heat damage" & "Under attack" LOL it was fun

Thanks for sharing, hope to have a few NPC encounters like this in the future. I have not done much trading myself as found it a bit tiresome and mainly bounty hunted.
