General / Off-Topic An end to screen junkies/honest trailers?

Allegations of misconduct have surfaced regarding Andy Signore, the creator and owner of Honest Trailers. Totally gutted at this, and I'm not the only one.

A few women are coming out about this. Looks legit.

Ugh, the crappiest thing about stories like this is how the institutions involved just keep backing up the creeps and protecting their own interests before anything else. All they way back to the catholic church and now modern universities with cultures. Why don't people ever learn.

That appears to be what happened in this case. April went to HR and other women joined her in complaining, but they basically tried to shut the whole thing down. I knew this is an endemic problem in the movie industry (the "casting couch" is something that many attractive women trying to get into acting will tell you about with some grim forbearance), but to see it here is a bit disheartening.

I don't think Andy Signore did anything illegal, at least from what I'm seeing in the allegations, but people in positions of authority are not supposed to use that authority to pressure women like this. I'm pretty gutted not just for the women but for Andy's wife and kid. This went extremely viral on twitter last night, with most of the movie twitterati sharing it. There is no way Defy Media are letting Signore stay and there is a good lesson in not sweeping such allegations aside. Their HR department definitely needs to be canned.

What do you mean?

Victims are disbelieved all too often. False allegations are rare.

I don't know, really. There's always something odd about these situations. Everything suddenly comes up on the surface, while apparently incidents continued to happen for a very long period of time. What is the catalyst? Could it be that in all this noise and panic a little bit of exaggeration and lies sneaked in? I'm not defending him, especially considering that I don't know all of the details. Probably nobody does at this point. However, crowds with torches and pitchforks aren't know for their ability to honestly judge their victim :) If you catch my drift.

I do not know, and have never heard of any of those people.

You are posting it here, so it must be important to you personally.
Is Signore some kind of cult figure?
Why would you be gutted? Or are you gutted about what happened to those women?

Honest Trailers does actually have a big following. I know a few here do watch them.

I'm gutted for the women involved (and it turns out there are rather a few), but also for two people unmentioned so far. Signores wife and child. His son in particular. His kid is right at the age where he (and his school peers/social circle) will be able to read and understand the contents of these messages and emails being splashed over Twitter, but not old enough to understand completely the kinds of feelings that drive this behavior.

I'm gutted also for the people working at screen junkies. A lot of people had become involved in making that project successful and financially viable.

All of this ruined by one man's inability to control his libido.

This is somewhat relevant to this situation, and to my previous post. Decent TED talk too, worth a watch.

For those with no idea what Honest Trailers is, here's one of the best ones...
