An eventful trip to Maia

I started out in my Anaconda (the Autauga County, AK-160) and, after buying a new 7A thruster and storing my old one for my soon to be purchased Corvette, I took off to Maia to visit the professor to get my new drive upgraded with the DD5. After completing this task, I then decided to participate in the missions being handed out to supply him with Thargoid objects. On my way out to the crashed scout ship I ran into my first mega ship.

I had a real problem flying the Annie on the Lat/Long coordinates and got pretty frustrated. So I found a startport with a shipyard and called in my Dolphin, AKA Bama Tours. The next day I got to the shipwreck and started doing business. I was really tough to scan the wreck but i finally stood the SRV on its nose, locked the brakes and bumped the thrusters until the target lined up and I could scan it. It was smooth sailing after that.

While there I took a side trip to a low security system to pay off some old fines and got to see my first asteroid base. A pretty cool base, we need more like in the game!

I got about 200 million to my name when this came thru...

My first and if you asked me a year ago I'd have told you no way. With 7 weeks and 3 days in I'm definitely not the quickest. After 250,000,000 in profits from the good professor I bid Maia adieu and went out to check out the Alien structures. That was pretty cool and now I'm on my way back to finish my Admiral rank (47% Post Captain).

All in all a cool adventure. The one thing I that was a bit of a downer was the just plain lack of other commanders who even bothered to acknowledge my presence even when I flew the Dolphin right up and personal while they were in their SRVs. Only a couple bothered to return the o7... Really disappointing.

Congrats to you and great journey. I never scanned the thargoid wreck. I just shot the sensors and collected the fragments. Am I misunderstanding you?

Hmm, I was planning on making another run to visit the wreck. I didn't think to scan it either. I'll give it a try and report back tomorrow, since it's getting late.

Gratz cmdr! Nothing like flying a small and fast ship eh? I've recently parked my Conda to once again tour the galaxy in my Cobra Mk III. That ship is so darn fun, but your dolphin's looking pretty creme de la creme! Had it been me on that planet with you, I'd totally light up a few firecrackers (aka flak) and photograph the occasion :) Though I generally chill on Mobius where people are infinitely more friendly, I think most cmdrs in vanilla open tend to watch their backs and suspect everyone's out to get them :p

The Thargoid scout ship location is pretty cool though. It's quite the tourist attraction and I often meet randoms there. It's cool when you're minding your own business and this monster shadow from a Corvette or Conda just blankets you. You look up and be see this beautifully large ship. It's quite the experience.

o7 commander, oh and you are going to love the Vette. Yes it's a bit slow, but with G5 dirty drives, it pretty much handles like a large Vulture, a VERY large Vulture. I got a good G5 roll on the drives, and boost is now 358m/s
Enjoy!

the Pleiades really are the place to be at the moment. The sheer number of beluga tours going on around Maia are testament to that. Huge terrifying aliens and mass destruction certainly fetch in the crowds.

Nice write up of your visit o7

Congratulations on the promotion - nice pics.

I'd rename the Dolphin - 'Starsky & Hutch' with that paint job

If you fly to Obsidian Orbital you will receive a message in your in box from Professor Palin requesting alien items for 10 to 20 million a mission. This thread goes into detail https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/366284-Palin-Mission-from-Obsidian-Orbital

and the scanning of the wreck is here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/384099-Scanning-the-crashed-Thargoid-Scout-Ship

Really makes me wonder sometimes if they bother to test things after they put them into the game. Here is another example of bad placement...

The wreck is actually on the surface of the planet... [RANT WARNING] I know this stuff is likely put into the game (a 100 or more objects at a time) using a macro or a some other kind of automated routine but man, this ain't even close!

She is a fine ship, she was a real joy to fly these missions with a 530 boost and 40 ly jump!

I was in Mobius! Half of them acted like I was going to gank them, running back to their ships and boarding... I wonder what engineers they think I've been to when they are afraid of a Dolphin in their Annies and Pythons!

Congratulations on the promotion - nice pics.

Ha ha! Well, for your information my first car was a 72 Gran Torino that I painted dark metallic blue with a white Starsky and Hutch stripe! I dropped a 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet into her with a 4 speed and had a blast with her for the next 5 years.
