An Idea for the Perfect 2023 Anniversary Animal

With the recent announcement of the Arid Animal Pack, featuring a wide range of animals, particularly those of the hoofed variety from arid regions of Africa and the Middle-East. However, with this DLC has also come a little bit of disappointment from the wider community, stemming from the pack's exclusion of the striking Hamadryas Baboon.

So Hamadryas Baboons, for those who don't know, are a large monkey native to the Horn of Africa and the shores of the Red Sea, which also extends their range into a little bit of the Middle-East. Males adorn a magnificent mane of silver hair, and a rather eye-catching posterior. They like many primates eat a wide variety of plant and vegetable matter, but will also consume small animals such as insects, rodents and reptiles. They favour steppes, savannahs and semi-arid scrubland habitat, which would make them a likely candidate for a Highlands or a Safari Pack.

But the Hamadryas, in terms of Highlands, competes with a perhaps more fitting addition to a Highlands DLC, in the Gelada, a relative, but not part of the Papio genus which encompasses all baboons. There are many in the community that would like the Gelada as well as the Hamadryas, but given the Hamadryas' absence from the Arid Animal Pack, the community is having to make a choice between the Gelada and Hamadryas, with many wanting both, of which I am one.

So, instead of making the Hamadryas Baboon a paid animal, instead, make it an anniversary animal, a very welcome one at that, and then we can have a true baboon in the base game, like we now have a base game deer in the Red Deer of last year. That way we can have the potential of all three, Mandrill, Gelada and Hamadryas Baboon, a striking and magnificent trio of large old world monkeys.

Like and comment in this thread if you agree that the Hamadryas Baboon would make a great anniversary animal.

does African Spurred Tortoise can work as anniversary animal? because for me it's my most wanted animal as a kind of clone and I think it can be it's only opportunity to come to the game, after it's missed the opportunity with Grasslands and now Arid Pack

It could and I see it as a much more realistic choice than the Hamadryas Baboon. But honestly I think the anniversary animal will be a mammal or perhaps bird (Grey Crowned Crane I could Imagine). I think reptiles have not so much lobby compared to the other groups for the overall player.

I really think the next Anniversary animal should be or reptile like the Spurred Tortoise or really bird like American Flamingo or Grey Crowned Crane, I think it would made all the community pretty happy right?

Within the Forum sure and in kind of birds I think also General Players would be happy with them. But I do not know, I just think general players would not be very hyped by a tortoise. But I would be okay with it.

Honestly i cant see the baboon coming as the anniversary animal, would be a banger tho.
If we get a monkey i think it would be a squirrel monkey or black tufted capuchin.
But seeing how Frontier seemingly goes out of their way to not inclunde monkeys it will probably end up being the black bear or something

I would be happy with it, that's for sure! and I think frontier really love me as a fact that they give me Porcupine and they knew it would make me go insane so it can happen! I don't think people's really can complain about free update or free animal because It's free so everything free I think it's welcome.

That's a likely option. I think that since we got an African animal in the first gift and an Eurasian animal in the second gift, the third one will be (if any) an American animal. But if they give another African (after all the red deer is also African), the tortoise is a very good candidate.

I mean it could just as well be a tortoise from the americas like red footed or gopher tortoise.

They can even be housed with porcupines. That we didn't get this in the Arid pack is even weirder to me than the lack of birds and baboons, which says a lot.

exactly! that's more weird than that we didn't got birds and baboon because it's pretty much a clone and it's very requested nowdays! so I'm so hopeful they will come to the game too!

It’s generic but I’ll agree with everyone else and guess the African Spurred Tortoise. While I think it could be an American Flamingo, that would give two flamingo species in base game. I’m gonna guess a bird, maybe something like a golden pheasant?

Frontier only give us clone animals as anniversary gift so any baboon specie seems unlikely despite PZ has the Mandril's model already
