With the recent announcement of the Arid Animal Pack, featuring a wide range of animals, particularly those of the hoofed variety from arid regions of Africa and the Middle-East. However, with this DLC has also come a little bit of disappointment from the wider community, stemming from the pack's exclusion of the striking Hamadryas Baboon.
So Hamadryas Baboons, for those who don't know, are a large monkey native to the Horn of Africa and the shores of the Red Sea, which also extends their range into a little bit of the Middle-East. Males adorn a magnificent mane of silver hair, and a rather eye-catching posterior. They like many primates eat a wide variety of plant and vegetable matter, but will also consume small animals such as insects, rodents and reptiles. They favour steppes, savannahs and semi-arid scrubland habitat, which would make them a likely candidate for a Highlands or a Safari Pack.
But the Hamadryas, in terms of Highlands, competes with a perhaps more fitting addition to a Highlands DLC, in the Gelada, a relative, but not part of the Papio genus which encompasses all baboons. There are many in the community that would like the Gelada as well as the Hamadryas, but given the Hamadryas' absence from the Arid Animal Pack, the community is having to make a choice between the Gelada and Hamadryas, with many wanting both, of which I am one.
So, instead of making the Hamadryas Baboon a paid animal, instead, make it an anniversary animal, a very welcome one at that, and then we can have a true baboon in the base game, like we now have a base game deer in the Red Deer of last year. That way we can have the potential of all three, Mandrill, Gelada and Hamadryas Baboon, a striking and magnificent trio of large old world monkeys.
Like and comment in this thread if you agree that the Hamadryas Baboon would make a great anniversary animal.
