An interesting observation

I play ed and love it, my other half plays nms and loves that. Neither of us likes the others game. But the things we each object to in the others game are the same.

"It's all the same! "

"Oh god, the grind! "

"Darn it, how do you fly this thing? "

And many others.

Just goes to show, the enthusiasts and the naysayers for BOTH games are right.

E: D's SRV gameplay and NMS planetary gameplay are the same. I was wandering around in NMS earlier today looking for the 9th animal out of 10 to pop up so I could collect it. I suddenly thought - "I'm wandering around a Procedurally Generated world, bouncing over terrain with limited jet pack flight, waiting for the random number gods to favour me with what I require from the terrain... hang on?... I've been here before?..."

In all BBC like fairness though - NMS' crafting is better, but E: D's wave scanner is cooler...

They also both suffer from some crippling core game design decisions that will require a comprehensive overhaul to correct. Taking bets on which developer (if either) is willing to make that jump!

I have decided it is the aesthetic that makes the difference. Just the atmosphere of NMS makes me appreciate E|D more. Then I start to consider the mechanics and again, the thoughtfulness of E|D shines for me. I wish NMS sky well but, it just isn't for me.

Right about what?

About both what they like and the things they don't, it's a personal thing that fits a game to a player. Personally I can't stand NMS. She really doesn't like ED. The fact that we claim to have those likes and dislikes for the SAME reasons just in opposite directions, says its a matter of different, not better or worse.

Meh. After three days NMS's luster is really starting to wear off. Funny thing. ED space to planet surface transitioning is better done (what you see from space is actually on the planet) and NMS's flight model is simply terrible. In fact, it really has no flight model at all.

So yeah I loved NMS at first, but three days later I'm thinking ED is a much better all-around experience.

To me, NMS is basically minecraft with spaceships and better eye candy but more limited crafting. I'll stick with ED too.

Except, even though it's just blocks, I find that the algorithm in Minecraft is able to create more interesting environments than NMS. Especially when it comes to underground caverns.

That would be why I play FTB infinity modpack on a server I share with friends, but probably won't ever touch NMS again :)
