An old story about the Hengist nebula

It was a pleasant surprise when I realised today that one of the planetary nebulae I discovered, Juenae OX-U e2-8852, named the Hengist nebula, was added as a minor POI to DW2. It actually has a funny story back from 2015 August, when I discovered it, that became relevant now.

Not long after I entered the system, a long-time friend of mine came online, and as we were chatting, I told him about it. He had never done any exploration then (remember, this was well before the Engineers, so no 5,000 ly requirement for Palin), and he sounded interested about seeing it for himself, so he asked me about the distance. When I told him that it was about 26,000 ly away, he said something that stuck with me then: "If it's that far away, do you think anyone else will ever visit it?"

Now, on EDSM: "284 ships passed through Juenae OX-U e2-8852 space, including 235 ships in the last 7 days." Well, looks like they did!

At the time though, I realised he had a point, and decided to search closer to home. However, he also asked another good question: if I would even fly this far just to visit the system again.
So, fast forward to the Chapter Four launch years later, after which I went around checking my earlier planetary nebulae finds to see if there were any NSPs in them, and maybe to tag a few bodies. I checked all except just one, and found nothing new in any of them. "Eh, I'm not going to fly off to beyond Sag. A* just for this one, when the rest had none."

Well, looks like it did!

So hey, thanks for visiting :D

Oh, and I actually have a little request. Could someone flying there tell me if the NSP appears in the Navigation tab after jumping in, without scanning? Seeing that it's 155k ls from the arrival point. I'm curious if they appear at any distance, but the farthest I've tested so far was 16k ls away.

I think I'll dart over there tonight. Partially because lightning, and partially because of this story! Perfect. :)

DEFINITELY one of the best views on this trip thus far for me!

Yeah, definitely.

I forgot to check the nav panel before scanning, but it looks like other people tested that anyway.

I posted these over in the photography thread, but thought I'd share here too:

as much as i like visiting these electrical storms, i cant stop noticing that they look flat and lack body. Love the sound in them though. but then again the sound is this game is off the scale.

Something that I thought was cool about the electrical storm, is that the entire L-cloud is turbulent. The cloudiness shifts around in density, and the ship has a very slight instability, rocking around by a small fraction of a degree. The sound environment is wonderful, but I wouldn't expect anything less from their amazing sound department.
