An Open Letter to FD Regarding Scavenging

yeah I had a bit of a realization. I don't actually play missions in Horizons because they're boring, procedural, and I hate them. Why did I expect different? I'm just going to go scavenging on my own time, and agreed, it's fun!

Now that we can exit our ships, I really want to be able to do deep-space spacewalks to like, cut up open access panels on satellites or floating shipwrecks. Imagine being out of your ship in deep space to do some illegal salvaging, and then having some pirates or a couple system authority Vipers drop in on you. :D

After doing a couple of these, I had a disconnect and the mission got erased. I do agree OP, they are good. I even stumbled across some plants just a few feet away from the target crash site. It was a nice visual bonus.

  • I hopped in the General Lee so I could go check out Farseer on foot (don't do it, it will ruin your imagination).
  • Anyways, I got sidetracked, went to visit Blaster on foot (don't do it).
  • Anyways, went to 906 to see if Xabaras' FC was there (it wasn't).
  • Anyways, picked up a power/fire mission at Herbert (it failed because I couldn't put out all of the fires).
  • Anyways, went to the local starport and bought a DSS, and scanned the mission planet to see if I could get a new power regulator (I couldn't... though I did get a degraded one out of a crashed condor).
  • Anyways, I just scavenged every human source that I found on the planet, got a bunch of Lazarus and Hush and Push and Weapon Schematics. Killed a bunch of people.
  • Anyways, I'd forgotten to buy ebreaches, so I shot over to Xihe and stocked up on them.
  • Anyways, while at Zhen Dock someone asked me to go kill a bunch of Diamond Frog citizens, so I'm on my way to do that.
  • Anyways, on the way I decided to scan the planet and I'm scavenging signal sources there.
  • Anyways, one of them was an "Active Power Source". It looked like something worth shooting, so I shot it. I don't know if I was supposed to, but that's what I did. Unfortunately doing so yielded no salvage.
  • Anyways, someone just pinged me and asked me to go kill Space Poultry citizens in Carmenta, so after I'm done killing DF here, I'll go do that.
  • Someday, I will make it home.

Concur. But the bartender doesn't really bother me. Gives us something to do at the bar, and I really have no desire to order virtual drinks and just walk around the space station mingling with NPCs.
