An Open Letter To GalNet Editors

To Whom It May Concern:

A while ago, I came to Colonia with a ship, a dream and a fist full of credits. I felt I had to leave the "bubble" to escape my own demons and a few bounties as well. This was long before the discovery of the Neutron Highway and before there were many missions out here. But that is what I was looking for; a place to start fresh in a golden land of opportunity. And I prospered. After getting myself situated in the area and making a few credits, there was a call for a community assistance program to ship things out to Colonia. Being the good citizen I am, I bought another ship, outfitted it properly and chipped in, earning myself a few more credits and even adding to my Pilots Rank.

One day, after coming back from a long haul run, I found that while I was away, passenger lounges had been installed. I then proceeded to transport some famous people around the area, even taking a few of them 20k ly on a tour. And through it all, I have always felt that Colonia is my home. I have gotten used to these stars out here, they are like old friends to me now. If I could ask one thing for my home, it would be the inclusion of A rated Core Internals for my ships. Why are we relegated to being second class citizens and not receiving the best of the best? We have some good Engineers out here that can work their mojo on components, sure, but nothing compares to a modded 6A Power converter than another 6A power converter.

Now, I know I could fly back to the bubble and outfit a ship, strip the ship, fly back home and then (at great cost) have those items shipped out here. But my question is, "Why?". Is there a tech trade embargo that I am not aware of? Is there some communal event that could help facilitate getting those core internals out this way?

Thank you for listening to an old spacer.

The outfitting has been generally improving over time
- it started out as D-rated Vipers and T-6s (plus A-rated mining tools)
- once Colonia Dream's outfitting was fully operational in April 2017 we got a fairly comprehensive shipyard and mid-range outfitting
- the big expansion in July 2017 gave quite a few more options and almost everything available at C-rated
- Whirling Station opened in January 2018 which diversified and expanded the selection, giving some of the larger B-rated items
- there was another significant increase at the end of February 2018, which gave a lot more A- and B-rated items, as well as tech broker access
- a few extra items showed up with the engineers arriving in August 2018
- the ability to maintain Investment states in the last month has given us effectively a full selection of B-rated items - and A-rated for many components.

The only things we still can't get locally are A-rated core modules or shield generators and banks, in sizes 4 and up. (1A-3A is available)

That's pretty good already for a tiny and remote settlement which has to produce pretty much everything locally, but I expect the improvements will continue in future as well. If you're only interested in A-rated items most of the progress in the last two years will have been somewhat invisible, but there has been steady progress made.

We haven't had a CG since August, so maybe we'll get another one soon, and get some more outfitting capabilities from that. Alternatively, if we were to get the relevant engineers to G5, maybe that would give us a case for A-rated components of that type to be more widely available.
