Dear Frontier, I know you've got your minds set on this, but there is still time to reconsider. One of the great things about Elite is the sense of realism, the connection a Commander has with his or her ship. Unlike in some other games, the connection is a primary element of what makes Elite such an immersive experience. Take the recent exodus to Jacques Station. The community got together and embarked on an epic journey to a far off goal. That journey in itself was an incredible experience, and I cannot think of other games that are able to capture that specific mixture of journeying, adventure, and community spirit. Within the core of Elite, is travelling from system to system, which is an involving process, whether it's a neighbouring system, or embarking on a grand expedition into the unknown. This is what is integral to Elite, its core in maintaining that connection between a player and a bunch of pixels on their screen, and yet let their imagination bask in the freedom of knowing they are in control of their starship.
It is because of this that I believe ship transfers, whilst convenient, will detract tremendously from these integral elements. Not only will the gravity of having to plan grand exploration adventure be trivialized, but even the simple aspect of space travel as a whole, moving from station to station, be reduced to a point and click affair. I believe this will erode the soul of what makes Elite the unique experience that it currently is.
Please Frontier, I hope you change your perspective on this.
