An unfortunate sequence of events

Ok, that's me done playing for today. Yes this is a rant. No it's not seeking sympathy for losing a ship while "trading naked" and getting sidey'd, because that isn't what happened.

Part the first: Space cow with A rated shields and two A boosters, plus a full load of tobacco. Get jumped by an NPC wing and they are ALL rocking railguns. Kaboom before I can even get to the UI to drop them some cargo to appease them, let alone before my FSD has cooled down. Sucks, but it's part of the game and I had enough to cover the insurance. I've still got insurance+cargo funds left so I'll recover that in half an hour or so. Rebuy, restock and off I go again. This time completing the run ok.

Part the second on the next leg of my loop: Load up with Beryllium. Get to my destination, drop at station and get ready for approach. What the heck? Illicit Cargo? Check UI. Darn, I mismoused at the last station and there's still a few cans of tobacco in there. Shrug. I can take the loss of duping these few before I hit the scan zone. Select the tobacco, left arrow to choose to jettison it all, enter... Wait... WHAT???? The game glitched and dumped all my 400+ tons of Beryllium too. Only got a few cans back before the rest despawned. Roughly a 4 million loss. (and before you ask no I didn't mistakenly hit jettison all, (a) that option isnt available from where I was in the UI, (b) that key is unbound in my control configs)

And that leaves me unable to restock cargo without cutting into the insurance budget. Filed a support ticket but if FD don't help out and get me the cargo or credits back I'm going to have to sell the T9 because it's not safe to fly it any more.

Bought a few tons of biowaste and scrap and tried to reproduce it, taking exactly the same actions. No joy so it must have been a glitch rather than a systematic bug but it's still as annoying as heck and between the two events has set me back a lot of play time since I'll be making up the loss in a ship with WAY less cargo capacity. I was planning on playing a lot this weekend too, that's not going to happen now because I've got to wait to give FD time to look at my support ticket before pushing the button on taking the additional millions of loss from selling the T9.

I need a beer.

UPDATE: FD support credited me with the sale price of the lost cargo. I'm flying again :)

We get quite a few folks who have (often legitimate) gripes about the game and about FD complaining on here about "white knights" defending FD. I'm not sure I agree with them but it's responses like this that encourage players to have a positive opinion of FD in general, as well as more public ones like mass-crediting players who got hit by bigger glitches and bugs.

Tangentially it's also largely thanks to ED's design as a non-competitive sandbox with the vast majority of players actions having only an indirect impact on the game that makes responses like this possible. If it was a straight-up competition they couldn't help out folks hit by glitches and bugs like this any more than at a track & field event would they re-run a race if a runner had a spike break on their shoe, causing them to fall (ie, through no fault or lack of technique or skill on the athletes part)

FD were pretty good when I lost a ship for no reason. You should be OK.

I'm pretty sure they'll help out if they can verify the details, it was just between the event itself and the fact that it's going to put a serious crimp in my plans to be playing heavily this weekend it was either rant to you guys or deal with a simmering buildup of irritation that would have had me snapping at somebody. You guys get why it's rant-worthy, most of the other folks around me IRL wouldn't :)

Indeed, so rant away here, we understand and sympathize. And have another beer while you're at it.

Thank you, Sir! I shall! May I offer you a glass? It's my home clonebrew of Morland's "Old Speckled Hen" and it turned out pretty darn close to the original and I've got a 5 gallon keg of it sitting in the fridge behind the bar in my basement :)

Appreciate the offer but I don't drink beer, bourbon on the other hand...

While I agree that a fine bourbon is a pleasure to be savored, sadly my ships bar is sorely lacking in supplies right now... However if a single malt will tempt you I have an 18 year old Laphroaig if you like a seriously peaty flavor, a 12 year old Talisker and there's even some left in the bottle of 18 year old Oban single cask..

Why did I click on a post that was obviously a rant, with true felt hard times and feelings certain to be found?

To see If I could assign blame? Not my style.

To find a way to crack a joke about it? hmm. no material.

To waggle my finger and comment on Ethical Causality and Deterministic Autonomic Misfortune? naw- too many big wurds.

To quote bumper stickers from a Forrest Gump movie?

To find a reason to look up words only the Germans have a word for?

why- oh why did I click this topic, and feel the need to participate in it?

...To find a reason to look up words only the Germans have a word for?...

And you, Sir will find yourself ejected from my bar before you have a chance to finish your first drink! Yes, I know it's worth a bit of schadenfreude, and you're welcome to it. I can come back from this even if FD don't help me out over the glitch. It will just take me longer and annoy me. Ranting on here was just sparing my IRL associates from the backlash of the quite justifiable annoyance the game served me by letting me blow off the frustration, plus giving my esteemed colleagues - in which number I do include you - an opportunity to either go "ouch!" or "HaHa!". You chose the latter and more power to you.

My ship upgrade list since I started playing again.

Sell A Rated Type Six to upgrade to a Diamondback Explorer for to explore, dang.
Get blown up and lose million dollar exploration equipment, dang.
Downgrade to mix and match type six to sell rares, cool.
Upgrade to vulture for with which to fights with.
Sell 9 million dollar vulture to by an Asp.
Fight, trade, explore, and mine in that Asp.
Buy a type seven, because six is afraid of seven.
Now flying snow globe full of tiny coral.
Still have asp though. *Double thumbs up backflip onto a pile of caltrops*

In the original Elite, biowaste was often sold at a negative, so they payrd you to take it away. Not much, but if you found yourself out of funds, then it was an easy but slow way to make a few credits.

A Laphroaig will do me quite nicely, thank you.

Unless...wouldn't happen to have some 99 banana schnapps and chocolate creme whiskey would ya? I'll teach you how to make a Banshee..nothing quite like a chocolate banana that leaves ya feeling nothing at all...until the next morning for those who get hangovers(I don't, it's awesome), at which point the name makes perfect sense :)

I kinda sympathize - but running off to FD wailing and whining - I dunno. I just wonder if you get the point of the game at all. There is no rush. It is a long-term experience, surely? Isn't it all about the flying around experience itself? And taking part in things like CG's and CZ's and Res's, and bounty hunting, and exploring, and even CQC if you are of a mind. It surely isn't a race to accumulate credits. So what if you lose a day's earnings, or a week's, or a month's - it isn't relevant. You will still get into a ship and fly it around and isn't that what the whole point really is - in the final analysis? What are you going to do when you have umpteen billion in the bank? Is the game over for you then?

Oh well, I can see myself getting flamed here, but I've had losses like this, and I am sure others have too, and running off to momma with a "pity me, it ain't fair!" story is just not .. well, it's just wimpish somehow.

No flames, I promise you. If it had been my fault I wouldn't have dreamed of asking for FD to roll it back. The fact remains I am out 4 million credits that I need to restock my cargo due to a glitch. If it had been my miskey or otherwise my fault I'd not dream of asking. The game behaved in ways that it shouldn't, and that cost me. THAT is what I am asking FD to fix, not any other part of it.

Barkeep! double Laphroaig for my friend here! Out of my personal stock, and I'll darn well space you without a remlock if you give him either watered or short measure! As for the mix, well.. the bean-sidhe stay away from me and I stay away from them. It simplifies my life.
