Ok, that's me done playing for today. Yes this is a rant. No it's not seeking sympathy for losing a ship while "trading naked" and getting sidey'd, because that isn't what happened.
Part the first: Space cow with A rated shields and two A boosters, plus a full load of tobacco. Get jumped by an NPC wing and they are ALL rocking railguns. Kaboom before I can even get to the UI to drop them some cargo to appease them, let alone before my FSD has cooled down. Sucks, but it's part of the game and I had enough to cover the insurance. I've still got insurance+cargo funds left so I'll recover that in half an hour or so. Rebuy, restock and off I go again. This time completing the run ok.
Part the second on the next leg of my loop: Load up with Beryllium. Get to my destination, drop at station and get ready for approach. What the heck? Illicit Cargo? Check UI. Darn, I mismoused at the last station and there's still a few cans of tobacco in there. Shrug. I can take the loss of duping these few before I hit the scan zone. Select the tobacco, left arrow to choose to jettison it all, enter... Wait... WHAT???? The game glitched and dumped all my 400+ tons of Beryllium too. Only got a few cans back before the rest despawned. Roughly a 4 million loss. (and before you ask no I didn't mistakenly hit jettison all, (a) that option isnt available from where I was in the UI, (b) that key is unbound in my control configs)
And that leaves me unable to restock cargo without cutting into the insurance budget. Filed a support ticket but if FD don't help out and get me the cargo or credits back I'm going to have to sell the T9 because it's not safe to fly it any more.
Bought a few tons of biowaste and scrap and tried to reproduce it, taking exactly the same actions. No joy so it must have been a glitch rather than a systematic bug but it's still as annoying as heck and between the two events has set me back a lot of play time since I'll be making up the loss in a ship with WAY less cargo capacity. I was planning on playing a lot this weekend too, that's not going to happen now because I've got to wait to give FD time to look at my support ticket before pushing the button on taking the additional millions of loss from selling the T9.
I need a beer.
UPDATE: FD support credited me with the sale price of the lost cargo. I'm flying again
We get quite a few folks who have (often legitimate) gripes about the game and about FD complaining on here about "white knights" defending FD. I'm not sure I agree with them but it's responses like this that encourage players to have a positive opinion of FD in general, as well as more public ones like mass-crediting players who got hit by bigger glitches and bugs.
Tangentially it's also largely thanks to ED's design as a non-competitive sandbox with the vast majority of players actions having only an indirect impact on the game that makes responses like this possible. If it was a straight-up competition they couldn't help out folks hit by glitches and bugs like this any more than at a track & field event would they re-run a race if a runner had a spike break on their shoe, causing them to fall (ie, through no fault or lack of technique or skill on the athletes part)
