Anaconda advice

I've purchased a 200mil Annaconda as I am more than curious what it can do. Now down to just 2 ships.

Just wondered if any of you can explain why when I leave the docking area and about 80% through the letterbox I get a access violation / infraction for about 1 second then it is removed by the station and all is well.

I have insurance etc I just wondered what I am doing wrong. Is it that I'm too cautious and taking too long to leave letterbox? I'm going through around 70m.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Yes, you're taking a bit too much time going through the letterbox, stations are touchy about anything that is perceived as loitering in that area.

Going through at around 90m/s should take care of your issue.

That being said, if you get the warning for only a second, you can safely ignore it.

I try not to linger there with big ships as it increases the chances of touching the walls or collide with an NPC( or another Cmdr). Getting stuck in the letterbox is usually quite unhealthy :p

I haven't experienced that problem. Try and maintain a speed of above 70 m/s while flying through, put 4 pips to shields and if there are no ships in front of you don't be afraid to boost. As long as you can get the tip of the ship through the letterbox the rest of the ship should follow nicely.

Going a bit too slow. Also are you staying dead center of the box? The conda isn't as wide as a T9 by any means, you can comfortably fit two anacondas side by side in the letter box. So when you leave or exit try and stay towards the green side.

You will get used to the Conda over time. A Thrusters, while costing quite a bit, help a great deal in maneuvering. Never had any regrets buying those. With that and some experience its no problem to go way beyond 100.

Anaconda for PVE can be done with about 200-250mil if you build it well and are careful.
For PVP you need at least 300-400mil, maybe more.

Trading can be done as cheap as 170-180mil if you go without weapons etc
Exploring is very cheap but low credit rewards, the build will cost you 170mil and has all you'll ever really need. The most expensive exploration build will probably be 250mil. If you are spending anymore you are crazy :)

*All values including ship cost.
Personally I much prefer the Python to the Conda since the Anaconda is just too much like an oil tanker :p

At least the Conda looks and behaves like an oil tanker. Python behaves like an oil tanker but looks like a sportswagon :p

Yeah but I find the key difference is being able to use either fixed or gimballed weapons. Put all gimballed weapons on an Anaconda and you will still struggle getting hits at all :D

I take it you meant all fixed for the Conda? Don't see a reason why should struggle with all gimballed - at least vs. NPC. I have mounted 3 Large G Pulses and 2 Medium G Multis, works fine for me.

Thanks for the tips and info. Yes I am flying dead centre until I get used to it. Good to know I don't need to be.

I have only clipped it once but I get nervous I'm going to rip the roof off and it ends up being a convertable :p

I did have Python and FDL combo before Conda and loved both of them. Taken me since release of Elite in december to get to this point. Before buying Conda I knew I preferred flying FDL to Python which indicates I like nimble ships. I just still had to buy it to see though and get it out of my system.

I did some combat tests in it and it seems OK for pve defence and RES. Not up to combat zone though I don't think. I'm also still wondering whether to take part in power play.

Thanks for the advice. Just posted a bigger reply but its gone nowhere :(

Did have FDL/Python combo before anaconda so the jury is still out.

Now that I've consolidated my ships down to 2 it won't be difficult moving home if I want to take part in power play.

Remember that the Anaconda's flight dec is at the top of the ship so you need to go in just missing the roof of the letterbox. I usually go in at about the speed you are talking about and not had any issues.

I just upgraded to B class pwr dist. For the next big purchase would you recommend B class thrusters?

I have a 5 A shield currently to allow for more cargo with 3x shield boosters. Would you recommend this to be OK for light combat and trading only?

Lol yeah a T9 is massive too I reckon you might need to speed up through slot also :p

My combat trader. Can hold its own against pretty much all NPC's and less skilled players. Be prepared for that dramatic drop in cargo and jump range but that 4A fuel scoop works well.
Changing it for pure combat I'd obviously drop the cargo racks, aim for higher shields with some cell banks, needs a better distributor and powerplant.

To the OP, I wouldn't worry too much about those warning alarms as you fly through. You get them because the Anaconda is so long and it takes longer than a regular sized ship to pass through at low speeds. As long as you make it through the slot in good time then nothing will happen. I've got my Annie stuck in the slot on several occasions for about 15-20 seconds or so and the worst that has happened is getting a 400c fine.

Thanks for the responses. I've pushed myself to go a bit faster and it hasn't occurred for a while. I'm also gonna buy a class 7 shield i will lose a bit of cargo but then I can have a bit more pve combat.

Hey dude,

Nice build, if you change to 7A power plant, 5A shield generator and 7D capasitor = More cargo space and almost same jump distance and shield strength...
