Anaconda engine choice

I tried out this ship based on its popularity. I found a build, I believe it was distant worlds based, using 5D thrusters. I put a grade 4 clean engine burning mod on them and set out. This this was so slow that after I reached my destination 5k away I couldn't take it anymore. I don't need it to handle like a fighter but oh my gosh getting it to turn was teeth gritting. Has anyone taken their exploration anaconda and put 6A-7A thrusters on it? I'd be more than happy to take the hit in jump range if it meant this ship was a little closer to Python-like handling. I thoroughly enjoyed having the fighter and being able to bring a couple of corrosive resistant cargo bays.

Thank you for any input.

Edit: I sold the 'conda back for my Python and am currently working on imperial rep. That's why I'm not doing this testing myself ;)

Of course. Though you're unlikely to get much benefit from 7A thrusters on an exploration build; 6A should be enough to provide equal performance unless your ship is particularly heavy.

Some people measure exploration ships purely by the yardstick of jump range; they'll fly with teeny-tiny fuel tanks, paper shields, puny power distributors and tediously slow engines just to squeeze out the last drops of range. If that doesn't sound like fun to you (and it certainly doesn't to me), don't do it. Unless you actively enjoy it or you're trying to do something very specialised that requires extreme range, fly a versatile ship instead...

Since you are exploring, when you say maneuverability I assume you mean supercruise performance? Because thrusters have no effect on that at all - they only impact turning when in normal space and the thrusters are being used. Anaconda's SC turning rates are what they are - can't change them through outfitting or engineering, I'm afraid. So, for an exploration build, I'd just put 5D's on. You can land fine on high G worlds with them. Tested and tried.

Oh. I was under the impression that thrusters did have an impact on a ship in supercruise. Well that settles that then. Thank you for the info :) Definitely not the ship for me.
