Why is my shield MJ only 1078 and i see other builds with over 1500 mj?

in a low intensity CZ last night it performed ok but i was a little underwhelmed by its shields and i seemed to lose them quicker than what coriolis rates them at.

Now im not a great fighter pilot but im ok. What am i missing, im wondering if i have to many thermal boosters?
The boosters dont seem to have mad much difference to the MJ of my shields unless im missing something?

Should i have more gimbals as well? The capacitor quickly drains on this with all these burst lasers.

Well, you're using a bi-weave shield, switch it out for a standard one and your strength jumps up to 1326Mj, or 1560Mj with prismatics.

Personally i hate bi-weave for big ships, in order to get a reasonable shield strength you have to add so many heavy duty boosters, it negates the one advantage bi-weaves have (recharge speed), and unlike bi-weaves on a small fast ship (like fdl), you can't boost away and wait for them to charge back up.

Also, all your boosters seem to have the thermal resistance mod, throw at least one heavy duty in there, that'll up the overall Mj value a touch, the thermal booster are only +20%, a good roll on a heavy duty one will be +65% or more.

Everyone has their own idea of what a good PvE shields should be, some will advocate bi-weave so you can charge fast and get back into the fight. Others like me, will advocate massive Mj, high resistance shields, that can take a battering for ages before needing to recharge with SCBs... There's merit to both ways of doing things :)

Thanks for the advice, i seen a lot of differing opinions on the shield debate but i seem to lose them quicker than i would like.
The boosters i was wondering if i had to many thermals, i have 2 augmented and the rest are thermals will change this and see how i go, lacking grade 5 mats for boosters cant find MEF either and seems these ar bugged right now from what i have read so level 4 on most things will have to do until that is changed.

thanks for advice will look at other shields as i have a 7A in storage, not sure if its modded though off to check.

A lot of the bi-weave Vs standard Vs prismatics probably comes down to your chosen arena for NPC combat.

I can see bi-weave being good in a RES, since there can be quite a gap between fights and they'll have chance to recharge. In combat zones, you can get swarmed quickly, so I figure raw strength is probably better.

If it's any consolation, I use prismatics, with 7 boosters for a total shield value of 4601Mj, with approx 59/49/58 resistances. And I still loose my shields in CZs if im not careful, especially if there are cap ships around.

I'm a bit jealous of your resistances though, 67.7% thermal :D

I'm not sure what's going on with the defence tab in Coriolis perhaps it's something to do with the shield generator parameters you've input as changing it to G5 thermal sorts it out, perhaps swop a thermal booster for a kinetic one to balance the resistances (aim for around 30 across all three), most NPC's use energy weapons so the usual approach is to have a thermal modded generator with resist aug, thermal and kinetic booster mix (2, 1, 1 on my build).

The other approach to shielding is reinforced generator mod and heavy duty boosters much higher MJ but lower resistances and without SCB's an extended charge time this might be better suited to CZ although I've no experience of this approach.

I'd suggest changing some turrets to gimbals as you'll gain some DPS my all pulse laser Anaconda has 1 large and 2 small pulse turrets the rest are gimbals for a DPS of 95, I'd also fit 2 PD turrets as missile attacks can be nasty if the shields drop, I'd also look at some mass reduction as your builds speed is 11 m/s faster and only slightly more agile than my long range trader build probably because it's 500 T heavier

Only have high thermal due to the amount of thermal boosters and as you say no point defences.

I want the shields to hold for as long as possible in all areas of combat in the PVE environment as much as i can.

Transferring my 7A shields to my current location and will check out the aug and heavy duty boosters see what i can come up with.

Just been looking at option to change out some turrets as i felt the damage was a little slow shall we say, tweaks to do and more fun to be had :)

Working on changing this build, gone gimbles and pulse/burst lasers - 1 huge multi with corrosive effects.

Changed the shields out for normal a rated version and got a good roll on the thermal mod for it.

Will post results once i have a bit more engineered. Not tried it in combat yet but my Shield MJ is around 1550 with 60% thermal resist.
