Anaconda, or Python as a fighter?

Been trading in my T7 for a while now, and I'm getting to the stage where I am thinking which ship to buy next. I fancy a powerful fighter. Looking at the Anaconda and Python as they have big cargo holds for when I want to top up my cash.
The Anaconda seems good, 2 maneuverability, Python 6 maneuverability. Anaconda only 180 speed though.

I'd say Python. Not that I'd know from flying one, but from the stats it looks very, very good.

Same maneuverability ratings as a Cobra with perfect hard point placement and Class 3 weapon mounts. Can land at medium docks so can use outposts. Great cargo capacity too.

I want one eventually.

To be honest: I don't know.

I was a quite good Anaconda Pilot in Beta and loved the ship... and how Viper pilots thought they could circle me with ease until they met my frontend...
But i have no clue what the beast is capeable of nowadays.

Personally, I think the Python is more geared toward combat than its larger stable mate. It turns better, is faster and packs a decent punch. But I guess it all depends on your style of flying. If you are used to smaller more maneuverable ships then the Python will probably suit you better. That said though, the 'conda can be extremely dangerous in a combat situation but requires a different technique and weapons load out. My Python, for example, is fitted with fixed weapons whereas my 'conda has turrets. The 'conda is definitely not to be trifled with or underestimated though, because if it does hit you (which is not difficult with those turrets), it's going to hurt.

Bottom line for me though, is that in a combat situation, the Python is simply more fun. :)

Python is definitely a better warship and here's a few reasons why:
Significantly stronger shields.
Faster and a lot more maneuverable.
Thruster upgrades give it quite a big boost in speed. (My Python gained +15m/s on top speed and +50m/s on boost speed just going from E to D)
The low mass makes it even more maneuverable than what it says.
Can land on outposts as it's a medium hull.
Probably some more pros but I think this is long enough list lol

IMO the Python will be under FD's watchful eye for "adjustments" in the near future. It's a little too good.

Same here. Did have an Anaconda in PB, but the cockpit view isn't that great - bit like looking out across the deck of a tanker. Nice ship though...

All the generalist ships could be accused of that. Of course among them the Python is the only one with the rubbish jump range !

for over 130M fully kitted it BETTER be good!
Which is still under the stock price of an Anaconda... but from what I've been reading will outperform a kitted out Anaconda in nearly every aspect too. If anything the Python should be a large ship.

It's a great ship no doubt but it kinda renders the Anaconda, the flagship of ED redundant. As it is now, once you have the Python is there any need to get an Anaconda other than that you've got a spare 146mil cr and just want one?

The Python is close to perfection as a combat ship.

Its a pleasure to fly and packs a killer heavyweight punch.

I even took mine out exploring to the Pleiades...

You're comparing two completely different styles of ship really. The Andaconda is a Gun Boat, not a Fighter. It's a platform for powerful defensive weaponry, IE turrets. The Python is like, an even better Cobra really. The Andaconda isn't meant to be a fighter.

As it is now... Would that change if they implemented the Sidewinder dock?

As in turning an Anaconda into a carrier of sorts with your buddy still piloting the SW? Most definitely!

But then that's a change to the Anaconda itself. I'd prefer if the buff rather than a nerf to the Python but something's gotta give.

This.

The conda isn't meant for dogfighting, but it has a pretty good defense capability, when it's facing correctly the target.

I have a feeling the Anaconda is a lot like the Orca in that its main strengths are not yet implemented. Orca will be a passenger liner, Anaconda will be for engagements involving a wing.

Just a guess.

The Anaconda can carry 388 tons of cargo over 18 LY in a single jump, far far out performing the Python. And can hit much harder than a Python as well. So it's not entirely redundant.
