Newcomer / Intro Anaconda Purpose

What is the point of the Anaconda? As in does it have a specific use?
I think the general point of the Anaconda is to be best at everything and completely break the game, devalue every other ship and be an altogether complete PITA.

But that's just me...

In a similar manner, there is a Cobra mk.III for small and Python for medium ships, but these two, despite being quite OP, do have certain drawbacks that balance them out and give chance to other ships in their respective classes to shine in certain builds.
But Anaconda is just...
I don't know, I hate its guts. It's the only ship I don't own and never will.

Doesn't it still say in the description that other small ships can dock to it? Is that going to go anywhere now that we have fleet carriers?

No.
The original plan was that large ships with a hangar will be able to house not only SLFs but also ships like Sidewinder and Eagle. But in the end when we got the ship launched fighters, Fdev decided that "larger" ships (meaning small standalone ships) won't be included and it will only be SLFs.

It pretty much does everything fairly well. Combat? It's OP. Exploration? It's OP. Trading? I mean it's just a good ship, and looks nice too. The only thing that is bad? Rebuy.......

It is very bad at landing on outposts ...
If you read the rest of my post, you'll find out that I'm comparing the OP ships in their respective classes. And since no large ship can land on outposts, not being able to land on outposts is not Anaconda's "down side". Just like you can't say "Cobra isn't an OP ship because it can't equip C4 weapons"
It is a shortcoming that simply doesn't matter in that particular class.

The Conda has no purpose at all. Except for being the most OP ship in the game, next to the Python. If you own nothing but a Python and a Conda, you can do virtually everything the game has to offer. Plus, you get one free at Hutton Orbital. What's not to like?

The point of the Anaconda seems to be for most players to rush to buy it because they don't have the rep for the Cuttter or Corvette, and don't have the experience to know that it's not a particularly useful ship (none of the large ships are, really.)

I've made my Anaconda an exploration ship for when I do some really out-in-the-black stuff. It's jump range now, while not meta, is a nice 72.5ly and it has two SRV's and a good AFMU. However, it could also be anything you want.

It's downsides are it's requirement for large landing pads - if one could call that a downside - and that they are no longer given away free at Hutton.

Anaconda is the fastest miner out of the big ships.
There is a certain outfitting setup that allows usage of front cargo bay and the 2 mediums and the large hardpoint are perfect to fit 3 medium lasers.

So generally speaking:
  • Anaconda is best exploration ship in terms of jump range and space for trinkets
  • One of the best large combat ships, some would say it's the best (unlocked, best firepower, best combination of hardpoints and convergence, second maneuverability after vette, really good shields)
  • One of the best long range traders
  • One of the most careful modeled ship in game
  • One of the best miners
  • Best passenger ship

So its a ship that if its not the best, it is right up there in the second place.

It is a star ship, it’s purpose is to transport you and your stuff between stars systems.

As @Northpin says it has great modelling especially the damage model.

It is a true multi role ship in that it can do any role you wish except of course landing at outposts, it is also not perfect before exploration changed the way it turned in supercruise was a pain if you wanted to detail scan every thing in a system quickly and when running cargo it’s lack of capacity is a bit of a disappointment as you need to do twice as many runs compared to a Cutter or T9.

My Anaconda is now a surface miner at which it is splendid.

Yeah. The Anaconda seems to be the only one designed with a Sidewinder-sized hatch on the bottom (I presume that's what it is... behind the "current" SLF hatch; a big, wide, front-facing blast-door looking thing), with the idea that some of the other, later large ships would have them too (Cutter, Corvette, Type 10 & Beluga weren't out yet), but the idea was shelved.

Here's my totally unbiased list of why I hate the Anaconda:
  • It's a pig to fly.
  • It can't land at outposts (super important if you are a minor factiton partisan).
  • Fleet carriers render the long jump range moot, if you're prepared to grind for one (I went and faffed about in the Spirograph Nebula last night with my squadron. I took a Viper, but ended up just using the DBS.)
  • It's even worse to fly in supercruise.
  • It's a pig to fly.
  • The bridge is set very far back, so you can't do surface scan missions in one.
  • It's a pig to fly.
  • The extreme range possible with the Anaconda is only useful if you're in a hurry, and requires a pretty extreme build. FCs make it moot.
  • Did I mention that it's a pig to fly?

Actually, that extreme build is quite useful if you want to scout a system for your carrier jump. Last time I jumped from the LTD3 I scouted the system using a jumpaconda so I could send my carrier to orbit the same body as the sell station. Saved me a lot of time in supercruise.
