Anaconda vs. Federal Corvette: Comparison of Obtainable DPS

I know I'm probabely beating a dead horse here , but I really felt the need to post this one. After almost exclusively flying my Corvette for some months now I liked to try a vessel with a longer jump range and the possibility to fit three Pacifier frag cannons, so Anaconda was the obvious choice. Build it, engineered it and was very surprised how fast this thing eats even Elite NPC Corvettes and Cutters. Went to Coriolis EDCD to compare my builds weaponwise - and these are the shocking results:

Federal Corvette: 483 DPS
https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/fed...VoAPGAEAAA==.EweloBhBmUHYBsICmBDA5gG2SEBGCQoA

Anaconda: 980 DPS
https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/ana...sRLYDyoBAAA=.EweloBhBmUEY4BYQFMCGBzANikI4SFA=

The Anaconda's three large hardpoints compared with the Corvette's single one really shine with frag cannons and the two huge ones of the Corvette cannot make up for this even marginally.

Additionally the Anaconda's capacitor holds longer and four pips to weapons are never needed with this loadout.

This is absolutely hilarious as the Corvette looks and is named like and plays the role of a combat ship compared to the multipurpose Anaconda, but at the end of the day it's nothing but a larger heavy multipurpose alternative with much more cargo and much less jumprange.

I remember that the Corvette was originally planned with three large and two medium hardpoints instead of the actual one large, two medium and two small ones and this setup had been nerfed even before launching the ship because of players' protests of this being overpowered etc.

But to be honest: This can't be the definite solution. IMHO the Corvette needs some love here. Either buffing the FSD to class 7 to make her jump range on par with Anaconda and Cutter or a rework of the hardpoints towards the originally planned layout with probabely removing one size 5 and 6 internal compartment each as a balance, thus e.g. reducing cargo space and emphasizing the role the Corvette really should play in this game.

Or am I completely daft? :x

The numbers mean nothing if you cant hit with all your guns at once.

Turrets arent exactly reliable dps.. neather are frag cannons.

Not that im against your proposal. Its not going to make the corvette op buy any means.

But i dont think the corvette is underpowered right now eather.

Though its a bit late to be making the changes you sugest as people are using the ships.. what would happen to there stuff..

Hypothetical vs. applied damage.

In actuality, most things being equal where they can be, the vette has the advantage in combat and doesn't need any upgrades.

Also, I don't feel your specific changes would be an upgrade. Increasing the hardpoint size would not dramatically increase effective firepower because even the Corvette proves to be distributor constrained in an actual fight where it has to maneuver and absorb damage while simultaneously returning a useful degree of fire. Removing internals would harm it's combat effectiveness more than increasing the size of the three smallest hardpoints one size would increase it.

Do i want 2 extra size 3 Hps on the vette.. Yes

do i need them... nahh

altho it would make the vette more viable for goid hunting.

Listen to him ^

OP, there are a good number of variables, and looking at just one because you correlate that with combat ability isn't going to mean much. The 'vette has superior module placement, incredible shields reinforced with the strongest and most versatile SCB layouts of the big 3, considerably stronger agility/inertia management...oh, and I don't know why everyone complains about the hardpoint placement. I get on with it famously.

Little tired of this dead horse by now. If you blindly want high theoretical DPS, then just buy the 'conda damn it, and forsake the rep grind and extra cash expenditure. If you want an actual capable combat ship, open yer eyes a little.

EDIT: On a side note, the loadouts you've used are meaningless. If you're going for a blind DPS comparison use the same loadout. If I choose the loadout I can make an AspX with a DPS of 246 and a 'conda with a DPS of 48.

If we compare the DPS of the 'conda with the 'vette using MCs, you get 119 to 105. It's also worth noting that in an applied environment people will shoot you for putting turrets on a 'vette because it has that agility.

My God OP, you are absolutely correct! As you rightfully pointed out, this has been brought up on endless occasions and proven to be complete rubbish in an actual combat scenario, however it turns out that actually, all that needed to happen was for this to be brought up *one last time* to win the argument! My advice to you is, keep the Annie and sell the 'vette! Don't forget to fly in open mode as well, you should be juuust fine.

I always appreciate such "decent" irony. Btw: I don't mind flying in Open, you're always welcome to interdict me, but don't expect to shoot out my Anaconda's PP too easy, as it's G5 armoured and paired with a 5D MRP. I may wake out if people try to gank me with e.g. three FdL simultaneously, though...

TL;DR: I'm astonished of the power of three Pacifiers and it's a pity I can't put them on my Corvette.

Corvette was a viable Thargoids hunter. Until Fdev decided to limit AX hard points to 4 because they can't balance anything otherwise...embarrassing really. Such a cheap cop out solution...

To be honest if anything the Anaconda needs a nerf rather than the Vette needs a buff.

Whilst I agree in theory the Vette sucks against DPS you've used the literally worst case scenario here with massively engineered high damage weapons and in-equal loadouts.. As others have pointed out time on target changes things too.

If we compare stock weapons, say pulse lasers fixed we can work out a % ratio between the Vette and Conda:
https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/ana...AMFCxo4sAAAA.EweloBhBmUEY4BYQFMCGBzANikI4SFA=
121.2 DPS

https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/fed...AMFCxo4sAAAA.EweloBhBmUHYBsICmBDA5gG2SEBGCQoA
111.9DPS

Tons tons closer (108% difference favouring Conda) than your greater than 202% difference favouring Conda.

Beam lasers is 160 vs 170 DPS favouring Conda
Multicannons is 127 vs 145 favouring Conda

Even all frag cannons with massive damage are only 1545 vs 1296 (119% apart)

Despite your intentions something is poking the back of my head that you have an agenda to get the Vette buffed and have stacked the figures to support your arguement, whether I'm right or wrong I can't now shake that feeling.

So your entire thread, under the guise of "Anconda is a bit OP" which we already know; is to ostensibly complain about the class 1 hardpoints. Are people genuinely still triggered by that? My god. It's been months.

I have said this in many videos and in many posts.. On paper performance means nothing in Elite Dangerous.. Stats, figures, tables are only there to be used as a guide. There are too many other variables to consider such as maneuverability, hardpoint placement, time on target, distributor performance, etc...

In my experience, and let me make this clear, this is just my opinion, sustained dps is much more preferable over burst dps in elite dangerous, unless your shooting down small ships...

Also, a lot depends on your playstyle... the best build is what works best for your playstyle and ship preference.

"But the theorycrafting based on this spreadsheet, which leverages data from a third party that's using partially incomplete stats, says that your experience might be inaccurate.."

Indeed. Like anything; context is everything. Damage is only relevant when it's applied; specials are only relevant when they proc, etc etc.

Hmm, you know you can put C3 Pacifiers in the C4 Huge hardpoints, right?

4 Pacifiers on the Anaconda is more than the 3 on the Corvette, but Corvette will get you in position easier.

Only one change is needed:

Corvette (balls out combat vessel) hull rating goes up to 100

Anaconda is taken down (to reflect its huge jump range) to about 55 (since its more a civvy ship)

Cutter reduced slightly (since it has loads of advantages such as mass lock, speed and shield potential).
