And that's me back to Solo

So when I got my new joystick and found I could fly properly I played Solo. Then I posted here to see what the player base was like, whether the standard dingle berries you get in MMO's were playing ED.

And I'd decided it looked like there were people who actually cared about the game and weren't just male private parts.

This morning I was flying to Azeban Orbital from the Federation distress beacon and I get interdicted. Normally I manage to avoid interdiction but this time I didn't so I cam out, fired up the shields and weapons. Boom there's a CMDR in a viper (no names but I know it) and he blew me away.

I've not got a bounty, I'm not wanted, I have no Rep and right now I've not got a cargo bay. There's no reason to attack me, and he did.

So back to Solo for me I think.

Yeah, similar thing happened to me - except I was in a Hauler at the time. Also not wanted, no bounties and at that point no cargo - guy just pulled me out of SC and wasted me before I even turned around.

Difference here though is unless this happens to me a lot I won't switch to solo mode, your going to get players like this - it happens, why should you miss out on the online features because of someone who's bored?

Don't quit! :)

Several PvE groups can be found so you can have fun chatting with real people who will enjoy the game without wanton violence. They are in a sub forum somewhere

Nothing like this has ever happened to me since the Premium Beta days. Block this commander and carry on. If everyone does this, you're giving them a very strong incentive to behave, or at least role-play a little. The PvP crowd is nothing without that second P. ;)

I will as I wrote in other Thread use the Cheat Mode aka solo use to improve and avoid ,,,,and be often in Open as Badass...sry but if they force me to play it in there Style, I will do...

How very true.

You mentioned the block commander option, I've not seen it yet, could you tell me where? There is one CMDR (mentioned earlier) I need to add!

Something I thought I'd add while I'm thinking about it.

The other day another CMDR pirated me - but actually threatened me, told me to stop 'or else' and gave one final warning before blowing me to bits, while I was annoyed as hell at the time at least this guy was playing 'pirate', this kind of PvP players should not be added to ignore lists as at least they are adding to the richness of the Elite universe.

Plain phyco's should be sent to the ignore list.

See.. that I'm fine with. Heck if he'd even said "For the E.P.P." it would have been fine.

How do you block someone then? Bleh. Just the 4K to rebuild my puny ship and the fact that it costs more in ammo to kill Sidewinders at the Distress Beacon then you get in Bounty has made me a bit sad. :(

Seriously though, how do you block someone?

Lol. Do not kid tourself. Nobody is forcing you to do it, you are choosing to play like that, and looking for excuses and justifications.

Much of the success of Open will depend on there being _real_ consequences for doing that atuff. They are not in yet.

Somewhat idiotically, it's near the top of the main menu tree. I'm not sure exactly where. It really needs to be easier to get to (e.g. have a report/block option in the comms panel once you've targetted someone).

I have been playing and roleplaying as a pirate the last few days. I interdict players, hail them on voice and chat them up, scan them and take it from there. Most try to escape and often I catch them again (sometimes again and again), so I give them plenty of chances. Some are so stubborn on resisting, I put their name on my list and next time I see them again, I hail them with a "remember me?" and decorate the void with their bits and pieces.

So while I have attacked players on sight twice before, doing so without a good reason (bounty, personal history..) is just awful and no fun for anyone.

With an impending wipe, you have to expect people to behave like the world is ending. This means rioting, random violence, theft and just downright bad behaviour. Just be glad they can't sexually assault your ship. ;)

With the immanent player wipe people are bound to get a bit a crazy on open play as there'll be no lasting consequences to anything and there's little point trading up more money when you know its all getting deleted.
I can say that since player interdiction has been introduced up until the last time I played (Thursday night I think) I've only ever been interdicted by System Authority Vessels and I always play in open.

I would be careful about judging things pre-release, by all means play Solo for now but I hope you try Open again at some point.

Voice how do you activate voice

You have to configure a button for it. You will find it under >Controls>Modes Switches>COMM PANNEL.
Once configured, when you select a player, you will have a little menu and can choose to chat, request voice, block, send friend request.

I think we are missing the point here. Player diversity is a great thing in any game, it adds flavor and richness to it. BUT each activity should have consequences, seeing as how it is human nature to be their worst when not forced face the repercussions.

Pulling someone out of SC should A. be very difficult (every action have a reaction, so also in defence tech) and obviously mean you're instantly marked as a criminal in said system. (Even in the unenlightened year of 2014 forcing someone of the road is a crime.) B. Opening fire on someone in a non-anarchy system should trigger a NPC (police) response that is proportional to your action, i.e. firing upon/killing a player.

What I am getting at here is that unless the game have solid mechanics to protect and promote civil behaviour a majority of players will gravitate towards the lowest common denominator, letting others do the work, steal stuff and just have fun for ourselves.

I for one am not in this to feed another social experiment in a computer game, like EVE Online, to prove the thesis that humans are animals with opposing thumbs.

Also I assume Elite Dangerous have insta session termination on logoff, so a viable tactic when faced with a muppet in a pimped out Cobra could be to just to log off...

I dunno, I think this kinda adds to the richness of the world. The whole point of real players is to add an element of unknown into the game. Otherwise the universe is stale and quite predictable. AI ships aren't that big of a threat in general and space certainly doesn't feel that dangerous. But when there's psychos and pirates around it makes it all the more interesting.. I find I'm much more on my toes when there's another hollow square at a nav point. They could be friendly, they could scan you and ignore you or they could start shooting at you at the worst possible time when you're in the middle of attacking someone else. I think only real players can elicit this kind of danger-awareness response and it's exciting!

The game is so much more interesting if you let it all in, good and bad. you'll be rewarded with an experience even if you get blown to smitherines in a way that no AI scripted event ever could do.

You know glory charger? he basically does the same thing to you. Interdicts you and starts blasting you to bits. I doubt anyone's really fearing that though...

Plus, you have a perfectly legitimate option of running away... Its by no means a guaranteed kill on you even if he's in a viper. Or trick him, be like. "ill drop you cargo" and thrust away. Or kamakazie boost into his ship for psyco payback. Don't shut away the possible experiences that you WILL remember and charish because of a few lost credits in insurance.

This is like saying, Omg, a car ran a red light! could have killed someone! I guess I shouldn't leave the house anymore...

How incredibly cool is it that we can actually interdict each other? Maybe next time you'll be more prepared to run. Maybe the time after that you actually have duel dumbfire racks that takes him by complete surprise? There are so many ingame solutions to this 'problem' that are creative and fun.

I get you though, sometimes you don't wanna deal with the stress of other people, in those instances I just jump further away from the core zones. Problem solved.

I agree, Fiddly, more consequences need to appear but some of the things you describe already work. When I shoot first, I get a fine and am wanted in that system and when I pull players out of SC, the police will show up after a few minutes, so I have to negotiate quickly, scoop the loot and then hightail it out of there before the police shows up.
While the bounties for attacking and killing players feel a bit on the low side, flying around with stolen goods gets costly over time because it is hard to avoid being scanned by the police at all. For example transporting 10 stolen minerals worth 10k last night cost me 24k fine.
While not balanced yet, there are very real and heartfelt consequences to pirating and if the fines for attacking players get upped, for grieving, too.
