And that's why.........

I prefer Solo.

I don't like "Open" because there is so much mindless violence involved with people seeking to prove how great they are at dogfighting.

But, I thought hey, maybe this once.....

So there I was minding my own business (Styx was not an anarchy system last time I looked) when some guy yanks me out of SC and immediately starts to shoot my shields to Sh.....reds.

Then suddenly his mate calls and wants to "chat" on Voice Comms about how I just got attacked?

No thanks fellas, nice not meeting you, you stay in open causing mayhem for no reason at all and I will go about my business in my own little bubble.

Not what I wanted out of my ED experience at all, but hey-ho...it takes all sorts.

So far I have not been reasonlessly attacked by any player. I've met a lot of mad NPC's that attack me for no reason though.

Hi, I am just like you, but i can fight when I need to, then again i avoid it when I can, so take a leaf out of my book and play Group or if in Open play stay away from the hub.
What did you think would happen in open play and in the busiest part of the Galaxy ?

I guess different things happen to different people.

For the last 3 days I have been playing in Open, in a sidewinder, with no shield generator and no weapons and a wanted status. (Edit: that's thanks to not paying attention to the amount of time for a mission, accepting one, and realising I had to boost it all the way but sadly not making it in time! Curse you fine print on the contract agreements! :p)

I was player interdicted once (which I escaped from) and that's been the extent of my drama.

Seen plenty of other commanders ... FD just need to do a better job of the comms ;)

I always fight for a reason...no PVP for PVP sake. However, I'm also straight crazy and will shoot a Commander in the back for some obscure transgression that I then feel very guilty about later.

"Remember when you cut me off in the docking bay 10 systems ago??? No? Well that's why you have a multi-cannon buried in your heat exhaust."

EDIT - Disclaimer: I'm actually a very pleasant player. Forum persona is for effect :D

Same here - I was attacked a couple of times by human players, but I'm pretty certain they had a reason - most likely their reason for attacking me was them wanting to kill me.

Enjoyed it quite a bit, so thanks guys, whoever you were :).

Perfectly fine, this is whats great about having both a solo and a multiplayer mode.
What some is arguing though is how much of a solo experience the so called multiplayer actually is.
Others argue that what a player does in solo shouldnt be impacting or accessible in multiplayer, i was opposed of this earlier but have come to terms with likely because there isnt a whole lot you can impact in any case (as of now, hopefully this changes later on)

And out of curiosity, what is the gameplay difference being randomly attacked by a player or randomly attacked by an NPC? Aside from the player likely posing more of a threat, I see no difference for the gameplay experience.

People acting like irresponsible kiddies. And indeed that's what the game is turning into in open.

Often the NPC is a bigger threat than the ill mannered youth.

Unfortunately I can foresee this kind of behaviour happening after release quite a lot.

Right now, the playerbase is relatively small compared to the amount of people who will join us at release. So if you think it's bad now, wait until then... it will be mayhem.

My advice... jump into solo play, and get far away from the main hubs. Then go into online play and enjoy seeing other likeminded players like you, as the mindless attackers will be staying in those starter systems to pick on easy targets. They won't stray too far as it's less people to flame

You could always join the Mobius group which is a dedicated PvE group so you don't have to fly with just mindless drones.

My experience interacting with other players in the last few days has been surprisingly pleasing. I interdicted a few, whom I scanned after warning them with a text message. Those who stuck around and had a combat capable ship, I sent a message asking if they wanted a fight, they said yes and we had one. At nav beacons I bounty hunted next to some fellow commanders, exchanging a few messages, even teaming up to defeat an NPC Anaconda with one of them.
I haven't been subject to rude behavior or griefing so far, if the retail players are anywhere near that nice, I'll stay in open play.
